View Full Version : Heard of a transmitting hearing aid for the half deaf?

I have been deaf in one ear since I was a toddler and years ago I tried a friend's transmitting hearing aid that brought the sound going into the deaf ear over to the good ear. It was almost like hearing in both ears and from then on decided that I would eventually get one. I am most interested in using it for social events. I do not know very much about this device and would like to hear from people who are using it.

I think you're talking about a CROS/BiCROS hearing aid. They seem to be kinda rare. I do know that a friend of mine who was born with unilateral loss (which has now progressed to bilateral) said that her audi said most people who try them as adults dislike them. She posts at the hearingexchange boards. Maybe also you could try a couple of the Yahoo! hearing aid support groups and see if anyone on there uses them. I do know that a new option has come out,(approved by FDA!) which is a bone conduction aid which acts as a more effecent CROS aid. Try searching for information on Bone Anchored Hearing Aids.
