I went to see a new pulmonologist this morning and I got an asthma action plan. It said that if I'm having symptoms for two days straight to call him, then add another puff of Advair - that would be Advair 500/50 three times a day? That doesn't sound right to me. I just want some other people's opinions on this...

Actually, I know a lot of people who take Advair 500 and then add additional inhaled steroids (usually flovent) rather than take oral prednisone when they are having a flare, so taking Advair 3x a day doesn't sound out of the ordinary - I would take it every 8 hours, but call back and ask your doc to be sure.

I have taken 2000ug of inhaled steroid at one time! I only had mild asthma! Having said that, budesonide is less potent than fluticasone.

I'm just getting my medications switched around a lot until we find the right combination. I was on four puffs of Flovent three times a day for about a month and this pulmonologist switched it to Advair 500 twice a day, 3 puffs of Flovent at night, and 25 mg of prednisone. Wouldn't it make more sense to increase the Flovent rather than the Advair? It's the salmeterol in the Advair that I'm worried about increasing.

If ur still having problems (as in feeling tight) then maybe u should be taking more of the salmeterol! bear in mind that I was on continuous regular ventolin AND theophylline as well to open my airways. They REALLY overdid it with me LOL.
