Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone would happen to know how long it takes to receive the judges decision in the mail once he makes the decision. I had my hearing in june. I phoned the hearing and appeals office the week of july 12. I was told the decision was recently made and i would receive the decision in the mail. I check the mail box every day and nothing yet. I keep praying and hopefully it comes soon with the decision I deserve.

A close friend went before a judge for SSDI appeal (3rd appeal) in Jan, she received her reply from the judge in JUNE, and is still waiting on her back-pay, she did receive 1st regular monthly pmt in Aug (Aug 1). I hope yours doesn't take this long, but just wanted to share with you how this went for my friend. She filed initial claim in 1999 and has gone thru a lot of review/appeal process waiting.
I filed my initial in June 2004, and am waiting for 1st response letter, was told would receive decision around Oct/Nov, I'm hoping I'm a lucky one who gets approved on 1st try, but I'm telling myself to be realistic & bracing for the worst - a rejection, which would mean an appeal.
Good luck, I hope you get your decision soon.

Hi everyone, I am still waiting. Called hearing office week of July 12, was told I would hear something in 30 days. Still waiting. trying to be patient. I know it is bound to come someday, but what day, I just dont know. Attorney says all we can do is set and be patient, which is what I have been doing. Good luck to all who is waiting also.

In my case, I had my hearing on March 29, 2004. The decision was dated May 7th, and I received it in the mail on the 11th.
You also have to remember that the judge isn't the one that actually "writes" the decision. He makes the decision, yes... but a "writer" actually types it out. In your case, you were told the week of July 12th that a decision had been made, so the judge had ruled. Now, it's in the hands of the writer to get it typed up and ready for the judges signature.

Thanks Ammy for the info. I figured that is how the process worked because when I called the wk of July 12 they told me it was in the written stage. You were lucky to receive yours before 60 days. I think the office that mine is at is very backlogged from what I hear. Hopefully I will soon hear.

My decision by the judge, before a hearing, was made 6/21, I called several weeks later to find that out. I received a direct deposit 8/3, then a week later got the letter. Best wishes! (retro from 8/03)
