SORRY THIS IS GROSS!
I am a 22 year-old female. For the past week I have been having problems with my bowels. The other day I was having severe cramping every half hour or so and had to go to the bathroom and not much came out except some loose bowel and a quarter sized mass of "chunky" mucus. Today the same thing without the cramping really but there was a small amout of bright red blood surrounding the mucus.
What is going on with me?
I started taking a fiber supp. two or three days ago, should I wait longer? I also have a sample of a "Colon Cleanser" supplement, should I try that?
I do have stress/anxiety, but don't take meds for it because I don't believe in taking stuff to regulate your moods.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I think taking a fiber supplement is good. Your intestines need fiber to work properly.
Rectal bleeding should alway be checked out just to be safe and make sure there is nothing serious. You will never know until you find out what is going on???

Hi,
Mucous bm's isn't normal, and if you're having urgency and cramping before expelling it, as well as having blood around the mucous, it sounds as though you may have ulcerative colitis. I say such a possibility because I have it and your symptoms are as mine were.
But, there are other disorders as well that could cause the mucous/ bleeding.
The colon cleanse may inflame the tissue even more....any bleeding should definitely get checked out and not assumed it's "nothing".
Call your doctor and then get referred to a gastroenterologist.
Let us know the diagnosis.
Best to you,
quincy

hi all, I've been having exact same problem its horrible and scary. Mines been going on for about a month and I'm waiting to see gastric dr. after referral by gp. I'm convinced it has something to do with 3 large doses of amoxicillin I've had as prophylaxis at dentist over last couple of months. Did a poo in a pot for c.diff and some other pathogens (no diarrhoea tho) but results not back yet. Seems the less i eat the better and also since starting garlic capsules 1 a day, stomach is less crampy and noisy/bloated. I gave up smoking about 6 months ago and i know there can be a connection there too. I think these boards are great, much more info than anywhere else or any drs can give you. I'm so glad I'm not the only one!
take care
