Hi everyone, I'm getting sharp pains in the back of my head. I've been getting this for about a week. It's a sharp pain like someone as a needle in that spot. It comes and goes but is usually present as the day progresses.
I don't feel any bumps and it's actually sensitive to touching (with a little pressure). It also feels like it's between the skull and the skin. At first I though i had a sunburn or bite from an insect but nothing can be seen. i wonder if anyone suffered something like this before and could help me with what to do.
u need to get checked out cuz its most likely not an headache or any syptoems of and mirgraine

a friend of mine is having similar symptoms. Right behind the ear. She was told it was sinus pressure or allergies. I seem to disagree and worry about her, as in your case. I'd be concerned. KEEP us posted..I'd like to know what your M.D> thinks.

I get these alot of the time in the side of my head. Mine is caused by (i think) grinding my teeth alot. I also suffer panic disorder and this can be related to it aswell. Get it checked out by all means, but I wouldnt get too worked up about it.

i have that same problem. but it doesnt come till about 5 pm everyday. about 2 weeks ago it was worse tho. i would get this headache right in the back of my head for hours and it would just put me into a state of just laying in my bed in a pitch black room. then some days i wouldnt lay in bed and i would get these sharp sudden pains on my right back corner and left back corner of my head. it would feel like a nail gets drilled into my head in those spots. and i would get it everyday. i would like to think of it as allergies or sinuses.
Back back 4 months ago i got 2 gran mal seizures, and im taking 1200 mg of trileptal daily. but i called my neurologist last week and he told me its not any side effects or has anything to do with the medication. I ve had a CAT scan done an EEG and MRI done, and they all said that i dont have a brain tumor. i got this all done 4 months ago, and i keep telling my self its a brain tumor forming in my head now. But i really dont think it is. i have a panic disorder and anxiety about things. i ll have something small and think its this huge problem.
but i have those same sharp pain in the back of my head literally everyday, and i just try to deal with it, but i dont know if it is something bigger then i think it is.

Wow, I awoke in the middle of the nite with an itch at the back of my right lower head. I scratched it and that same am I for a few minutes like from 1 - 2 minutes at certain times, I felt like prickling needles inside my head or like someone took a match and lit my inside of that part of the head on fire with a match. It happened about 5 times yesterday and for about 20 seconds this am and then it went away. It was so scary. I hope to go to the md soon asap but today it hasn't happened. I don't smoke and I've always had low blood pressure, no double vision, or numbness, and Im only 42 yrs old. I don't get headaches often but I know when I get one. I've been under a lot of stress lately. Now, as I'm writing this Im getting a pain in my left side of my head, but its gone now, thank God. This pain was a dull pain but its gone now.

I get the same kind of pain on the top of my head and it drives me nuts! My sister does also. I am really starting to wander what it could be. It is getting puzzeling, cause I am trying to find websites about it and can't find anything about that.

I wonder if this is something that's "going around" that is part of some other thing. Since last Tuesday I have experienced intermittant "pinching" sensations on the back of my head, right side, near my ear area. It's like a "throb" or something that doesn't last long at all but mostly happens in the morning or at night time. I also have panic disorder so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it (like low seratonin levels maybe) and I also have nasal congestion/allergy problems that may cause it, or it could be related to the ringing/buzzing that is in my ears which was diagnosed as my ear tubes acting up and opening/closing when they shouldn't. I've had this sensation for a week now on and off. Some days I dont feel it..others I do and it occurs every 10 to 20 minutes for like 2 hours then goes away...weird.

Wow, I was thinking the same thing. Sunday morning I woke up with a sharp stabbing pain in the back of my head and it would just come and go all day.
I suffer from chronic tension headaches and currently take Depakote ER daily. But this is a pain I have never gotten before and honestly it did scare me a little.
I did have pretty bad allergies and I do grind my teeth a lot during sleep so I pretty much fall under either category.
I do feel so much better knowing that others are going through the same thing. I'm trying to get in touch with the nurse at my neurologist's office and will update with any information she can provide me with about this.
Take care!!
