I Was at an Ophthalmologist a few weeks back for bad pain in my eye( mostly the left).
I also get a lot of white flashing lights...
He did an eye exam and said he thinks i have dry eyes....and suggested to try using eye drops. I start with Visine which made them itch....i am now using Refresh Tears....i can't even count the amount i use them during a day.
My eyes are getting worse...the pain and now burning....
I wake up in the morning and they are hard to open...crusty etc...

the ophthalmologist never tested me for dry eyes he just thought i had them....he said if it doesn't stop to go back to my doc and he would send me to a neuro....well i have already been to two neuro's for different problems...the eye pain is the newest..

He said the bright flashing dots that i get are from my migraines....i have had them since i was very young and never have had the flashing dots....they just started a few months ago....my vision will go prior to a migraine but these flashes never stop...with or with out a headache.
He said it is possible to get a migraine with out pain? is that true?
I am confused at what he has said...should I ask for a second opinion?

thank you so much....

That always baffled me too! I had posterior vitreous detachment and started getting these large rolling balls of light in my eye, they've been going on over 3 months and only in that spot where the PVD is, and the doctor is trying to tell ME it's an opthamolic (spelling!) migraine! How ridiculous! My mom's friend has had white lights that look like balloons going on daily for 3 years, her doctor told HER that too! That to me is nonsense. Did he dialate your eyes? If so, and just saw floaters, my theory is that it is the floaters rubbing on the retina or if it's the vitreous, it's pulling on the retina. (there's no scientific way to prove what a person sees when a floater brushes on the retina, so that is MY theory)

Sure, you can get a migraine without pain, but I highly doubt it goes on for years! I hate when doctors talk stupid. And mine trying to tell me it's one, when it's only right in the PVD spot! If you haven't had a dialated eye exam you should get one.

Is the pain in the eye itself or on the eyelid? How about the crustiness? If it's on the eyelid it sounds more like blepharitis or more like conjunctivitis. I'd go to another doctor.
