Hello - my niece is 9 months old and has to go for an MRI next fri cuz the drs believe her soft spot is closing faster than normal. Has anyone heard of this, and can you tell me more? Also if you can keep baby Morgan in your prayers I would greatly appreciate it...

TIA

From what i understand generaly what happens when the soft spot closes early is the brain doesn't have enough room to expand, therefore if not treated a child can end up with some brain damage, basicly because the brain cannot fully develope. Also, there tends to be some malformation of the skull (not the right shape). Fortunitly doctors can treat this. What they do, depending on the severity etc is rehshape the head, leaving space for the brain to grow and at the same time reshaping the head to a more normal shape. Like i said a lot depends on how fast it's closing, the age at of the child etc. It is something that is treatable with surgery, they may even be able to use the helmets to reshape the head (kind of like the ones they use when a baby has a flat back of the head from spending too much time on their back).
