After My First Test Was Ran Which Was The Upper Scope, The Doctor Told Me I Had To Stay Away From Wheat Products, And Also Had Acid Reflux. This Did Not Alarm Me. Last Week The Colonoscopy Was Ran. When He Came To The Bedside, I Was Still In La-la Land. What He Said Was " I Have Good News And Bad News.
The Good News Is You Don't Have Cancer. The Bad News Is You Have To Stay Away Wheat." I Was So Out Of It, He Said He Will Go Over It At My Follow Up Visit.
I Am Anemic As Well. This Is The Reason For These Test. They Thought Maybe I Had A Bleeding Ulcer Or Some Type Of Blood Loss.
When The Doctor Told Me That My Celiac Dieases Is Cronic, And If I Don't Control It For Life I Could Suffer From Lymphoma(type Of Cancer That Forms In The Small Intestine.) This Teriffied Me. I Lost My Father In Law 3 Years Ago To Colon Cancer. Miscarriges And Seizures Are Also Complications. Within The Last 4 Years I Have Suffered 2 Miscarriages. As Of 3-20-04, I Started Having Non-epi
Seizures.
So Many Things Have Wheat(gluten) In Them. Barley, rye Pasta, Processed Foods And Even Medicines And Mouthwash. I Feel As If Im Going To Starve. I Know I Have To Educate Myself Reguarding This. The Grocery Stores I Shop At Don't Carry Potato Flour Or Rice Flour Products. I'm Going To Trader Joes Today To Look Around. I Hope I Can Find Reasonable Prices Due To I Have A Family Of 5.
Give Me Your Input!!!

I Am Going To The Doctor Today Because I Feel So Tired. I Am Watching The Ingreidents For Wheat Etc. I Wish They Would Make The Labels More Reader Friendly. Presevatives And Fillers Contain Gluten/wheat. I Feel A Bit Over Whelmed. Any Advice Will Help.

Hi, When my son was little he couldnt eat anything with gluten in it. He grew out of most of his 'celiac' problem, now he has a prob with just the 'added type'. I figured out that it wasnt just natural gluten. msg, modified food starch, wheat protien and there is other 'wording' for gluten, i cant remember at the moment, when I do I wil post them for you. Watch out for candy too.
With a family of 5 it is going to be hard to cook for, but not inposable, be creative. Do you have a problem with being in a room with fresh bread baking? Does it only afftect you if you eat it?
Try to find a natural/organic food/stuff store. You should be able to find corn, potato, rice products there.
Depending on where you live there may also be resteraunts that are gluten free, you could check a menu to find diff stuff that you may like.
Take care

Hi Petals,
Sorry to hear that you have Celiac Disease but it is not that uncome in some groups of people. There are alot of support groups online that you can get in touch with for help and pointers including a National Celiac Foundation.
I have been on a diet that is low carb and I rearly eat anything with gluten anyway but I know there is a big dfference -- I could if I wanted to.

As you know gluten is in wheat, barley, oats and rye--- but the big problem are those additives.

I wish you well---Harry

Thanks To All,
I Can Feel The Difference Since Staying Away From Wheat Etc. I Don't Have That Stuffy Or Bloated Feeling As Much. My Doctor Mentioned It Will Take Up To 1 Yr To Repair The Damage. He Is Also Having Me Start Iron Replacement Shots. I Just Feel Tired Most Of The Time. I Have Been Off Work Since 3-20-04. I Am Looking Forward To Getting Back To Work When School Starts. I Work H.s. Special/ Ed Students.

Thanks,petals

Thanks for replying,
I thought I was handling it well. Today I found myself being grumpy and flying off the handle. I know this is normal for someone w/3 kids, but i think it hit me when we went to the mall and there was nothing for me to eat. Or feel that it was safe to try. I'm not parinoid to the fact that my eating habit have to change, I'm o.k. with that. Maybe it was a combination of being tired and hungry. I did find a wonderful store that has a section for wheat/gluten free products. This was yesterday. They have rice flour and potato flour in bulk bins.
Thanks for your support!!
