Okay here goes..

I wear contacts. I recently started wearing Acuvue Advance. A week into wearing them my right eye was really bothering me. It felt like there was glue in my eye or something. I took the contact out, thinking maybe there was dirt on it, and put a new contact in. Same thing. Then a few days later, same thing with my left eye. I concluded I must have some type of eye infection. They stung like crazy, so sensitive to light and were a little "goopy" (there was some goop on my lenses). I took the contacts out on Monday and made a dr. appt for Tuesday.

My eyes were not red, so doc said he really didn't see any problems and was was deciding on if he should refer me to an eye doctor. Well I don't have insurance and was paying out of pocket, so I really didn't want to see an eye doctor. He said that since there was "goop" he would give me some antibiotic drops and use them for seven days. I have been using them (they sting like heck I might add) and they don't feel goopy and the right eye feels okay now, but the left eye feels like there is something in my eye right under my eyelid. It doesn't really "hurt" it's just very uncomfy. I'm thinking maybe it's my cornea that is scratched? Maybe from my contacts, who knows. Is this what a scratched cornea feels like? If I was to go to a specialist, do they treat a scratched cornea or do they just let it heal on it's own? I figure since I have the drops, IF it's scratched it won't get infected, but I just don't know if I should see a specialist or wait a few days to see if it heals with just the drops and time. Any advice is greatly apprciated!! :)

I had a scratched cornea years ago - when my eye would tear it would sting like someone put SOAP in it, plus my vision in the affected eye looked like someone rubbed vaseline over it! How is the vision in that eye? The contact may have just irritated the eye, that happens to me all the time. Keep them out for several days and see what happens.

It is very possible that you scratched your cornea. Who prescribed the contact lenses for you? Even if it was an optometrist, if you go back, he/she could certainly tell you if there is something wrong with your eye that merits seeing an ophthalmologist. It is good that you are using anti-biotic drops. That is what they use to treat scratched corneas. A scratched cornea must be treated. If you are still feeling like there is something in your eye after you've been using the drops for a few days, then you should see an eye doctor. The eye(s) won't feel perfect right away but you should be feeling a little better. Also, if there is "goop" coming out, what color is it? It is possible that you've got conjunctivitis (pink eye) and that is what is irritating your eyes. Whatever it is, you need to be careful. Use the anti-biotic drops as directed, and make sure your vision is staying the same. I wou'dn't wear the contact lenses until an eye doctor gives you the OK. Or at least for 2 weeks. And you need to keep your eyes very well lubricated by using some artificial tears. (preferably preservative free opnes like Thera Tears or Bion Tears.)

I know how bad a scratched cornea can hurt. It feels like there is something in there and your eye is raw and irritated. It hurts if you move the eyeball and look in one direction or the other. I had an infected ulcer on my cornea and it took a very very long time to heal. I had to be followed very carefully by my ophthalmologist, seeing him every day for the first two weeks or so. It eventually went away and he had to give me steroid eye drops to orevent scarring and vision loss. That was two years ago. Now I have got 8 micro-abrasions (teeny scratches) on the other eye. It's from my severe dryness. He's once again following me very closely and giving me anti-biotic drops. Which drops are you using?
