my psychiatrist seems sure that she knows ocd like the back of her hand, but she also claims that cbt doesnt work very well for patients with more obsessional, and i would prefer a good book on some cbt techniques or is there any websites out there that i can practice from? and this need to tell thought i have must be a compulsion eh?

im a "pure-o" and my dr. says CBT can be as effective as medication...
it seems opinions widely vary on this...
check out the book "brain lock"... its nothing new, but may help you understand OCD as a brain chemistry issue vs. this unexplainable "thing"...
i know when i hear things put scientifically i feel better...

I just read an excellent book from Jonathan Grayson called "Freedom from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder", and he walks you thru doing your own CBT and says it does work for those of us with Pure-O. Great book!

I have obbsesions and cbt was a god send for me. a book wouldn't be half as good. that would be like training to be a chef by reading a book!
