After blood work, ultrasound, etc. my doc has diag me with fatty liver and is sending me to a GI. I hurt in my back under my right rib cage and under my right breast in front. Is this normal pain for liver problems? What can I expect when I see the GI? What will I have to do to deal with this and can there be other things going on as well? Is it normal to send a person to a GI just for a fatty liver? Help! I am really worried that something else is going on.

Since having been recently diagnosed with a fatty liver also, I totally understand what you are going through. I feel pain under my right breast at all times and sometimes in my upper back. Your GI will probably do a CAT-scan or an MRI. IF I were you, if at all possible, I would go for the MRI, because I had a CAT-scan and they still had me go for an MRI.This is all normal for a fatty liver, so don't worry{I know that is easier said than done}. I had never heard of a fatty liver, so I have done tons of research on this. This web site has helped a lot too. There aren't many treatments for a fatty liver, but from the advice I have gotten is to go on a very low fat diet and take Milk Thistle and Lecithin. Also some people feel pain and some don't. They may decide to do a liver biopsy too. Don't let the word "biopsy" scare you. That is a good thing to have done. It can tell them how much damage has been done to your liver.Good luck !!
