View Full Version : Severe ear pain with tonsillectomy anyone?

I had my tonsils out 11 days ago. With the exception of a few stragler scabs, my throat feels great. However I am in extreme pain because of my ears. I'm worried because the pain is really only in one ear. Whenever I drink anything, it feels like someone is sticking needles into my ear canal. It's a very sharp pain. I usually sleep on my side and I find I can't sleep on the ear anymore. It hurts like nothing else. After about 5 minutes it feels like I have the worst ear infection I've ever had. When I breathe it feels like the air is getting to my ear, like I'm breathing through my ear (odd, I know). I'm really upset, last night I didn't fall asleep until 3 am and that was only because I broke down and took some pain medication. Has anyone had this? I have my post-op tomorrow. I alos should mention I've had these complaints since I've had the surgery and nothing is really new.

The ear pain you are probably having is from reffered pain. It is due to the scabs from your surgery it took me about a month for the ear pain to completely go away.
