View Full Version : PLEASE HELP I Am Only 19 And This Is Consuming My Life!!

[FONT=Comic Sans MS]I’ve been having abdominal pain for months now. The pain is mostly on my right side, in the lower right quadrant or sometimes by my belly button and sometimes its on the left side but like I said before mostly on the right. I had a CT Scan and an ultrasound. On the ultrasound the found 2 cysts on my LEFT ovary which should be nothing to worry about (is what the doctor told me). And on the CT Scan all they seen was that my colon was fuller than the average persons (but I was on antibiotics for almost 10 days and they made me constipated, so go figure) :p . BUT...They couldn’t find my appendix on either the ultrasound or the CT Scan! I know I have one so where is it? Also I had my blood drawn 2 times and found out I have an inflammation somewhere in my body only they don’t know where! So that is why I was on antibiotics. They also found out I’m really anemic.

So heres what my doctor did for me: he gave me some stuff called Miralax (its like Metamucil, only its prescription), which I used for a day and my mom started noticing that I was getting a TON of broken blood vessels on my neck(that’s what it looked like anyway), so I was like huh I don’t know from what and then I used the stuff again the next day and it was worse, so like any normal person I stopped using it. And now its gone!
And I have pooed...only it was diarrhea...I never have diarrhea. I mean NEVER! Well its not like full on runny stuff, but its really soft and loose and THIN and I have to strain to get anything out! Sorry that’s really sick and gross but I’m hoping someone can help me.

And just a little background for you about me: I am 19-year-old female. Before I started taking the antibiotics I was having a bm everyday. And now that I am done with the antibiotic I have had a bm everyday, only their weird like I was just describing to you. The only other thing I have noticed a couple of times with my bm is that sometimes its pale and has mucus in it. And sometimes if feels like I have pooed and there’s nothing in the toilet (maybe its hiding from me  ). I take 2 calcium-magnesium vitamins, 2 Fibercon’s, and a one a day active vitamin everyday. I also went through this same thing when I was 13 and was hospitalized and they gave me that oil stuff the supposed to clean you out, and 2 enemas, and I had to drink this horrible stuff, and I couldn’t eat. Finally they sent me home and I don’t really remember what happened but I guess I was fine after that and I haven’t had it this severe since then, but every once in a while I get constipated with some abdominal pain so I go for a walk and take some milk of magnesia before bed and I’m fine. But this is ridiculous, why can’t they friggin help me! I eat healthy for the most part and I take my vitamins and eat my fruits and veggies.

CAN ANYONE OUT THERE GIVE ME AN IDEA OR SOMETHING?!

I'm not sure. I went to the ER for a bad appendix that turned out to be an ovarian cyst. The doctor said that the scan wouldn't show the appendix and that they found some liquid and decided it was from an ovary and did an ultrasound, but they can't see an appendix on ultrasound anyway, because it's hard to tell if it's infected unless it's really inflammed. But I doubt that's your problem, because if it was your appendix would've ruptured by now and you'd be extremely sick.

Well thats why they did the ultrasound was to see my appendix and check my ovaries. And then they did the CT scan also to see if they could see the appendix on there. Thats what they told me anyway! My doc said they couldnt see any inflammation over there but they couldnt find the appendix and that was what they were looking for.

The appendix is hard to find because it's not in the EXACT same spot for everybody, but I'm sure it isn't your problem.

Have you had these cysts checked out again? Sometimes they can get very big and cause problems in surrounding organs, it's unlikely but...yea...

Also, even if you have cysts on the left, they can cause pain on the right as well. But I really don't think those cysts are your problem.

Have you seen a specialist at all? Cuz it sounds like you have some kind of disorder. Did you ever tell your doctor about the broken blood vessels??

I am having right lower quadrant pain as well. I've had every kind of test you can imagine and everything shows up normal. My GI dr. now has me scheduled for a colonoscopy at the end of the month to see if he can see anything. Your symptoms sound indicative of Crohn's disease. You should at the very least have an upper GI with small bowel follow through, and then if that is inconclusive (mine was normal) a colonoscopy should follow. I know how frustrating this is. My pain is affecting every daily activity and consuming my every waking thought. If my colonoscopy is negative, I'm going to go to Mayo Clinic to see if they can get it figured out. I'm sick of it! Good luck!

Yeah I told my doctor about the broken blood vessels and he told me to try a different kind of mild laxative since the miralax did that, he had no idea why it did it. I asked him to refer me to a specialist yesterday and he did, only it takes over a MONTH to get in. I cant get in until sept. 21, but I am on the on-call list if someone cancels. Which really sucks because Im in pain NOW and have been for months and it took my doctor 6 weeks to even do anything about it. But anyways...hopefully someone cancels soon so I can get in. Thanks for the help.

I realized that I forgot to mention one of the other most important things besides the pain. (Im out of my mind lately..sorry) The BLOATING after I eat is awful and after I drink...I look like Im 6 months pregnant. Im not joking either, it looks exactly like Im pregnant because my belly sticks out so far. I try to wear sweatshirts to cover it up because it looks goofy to me but its been in the upper 70 lower 80 (and yes I live in wa  ) so I cant exactly wear sweatshirts. But anyways do you guys know how I can fix the bloating? TIA - thanks in advance

The mucus you described is often present when you have colitis and it can be intermittent. Chances are you should have a colonoscopy and or a small bowel follow through as suggested.
My doctor actually advised me to not bother so much with things like metamucil etc but instead bulk up on the fiber, 20 - 30 grams a day, which is relatively easy to do if you find the right products or eat the proper fruits and veggies and only use a fiber treatment if having problems. I did that for a long time and it worked very well. Unfortunately I am on some pain medication for other health issues and it severe constipates me and fiber helps some but not much.
As a general rule when there is a problem with the intestines you actually feel the pain on your left side, not your right. As others suggested you may have a cyst or something similiar.
Hopefully you get it all figured out and get better soon

I get Ovarian Cysts regularly too. In fact mine first started to bother me when I turned 20. I was having intercourse (for the first time with my fiancee) and one popped... talk about bad first time experience!

I ended up being rushed to the hospital to be tested and told I have ovarian cysts. I was never given antibiotics. In fact I was told that they will be a regular occurance, but if they start happening too close together, to go back (meaning I may need to get them removed!).

So! I've had quite a few, but refuse to get them removed until I have my family. One more year and I'll be married, I want just one more baby.

BTW: I am now 24, and have been putting up with the pain for 4 years (which I really shouldn't be doing!)

Cant you have the cysts removed and still have a chance of becoming pregnant? I have to cysts on my left ovary and my doctor told me that they come with your period and usually disappear and that their nothing to even be concerned about but that I need to keep taking birth control.

I was doing some reseach and came across this all natural colon cleansing website thats called drnatura.com. It has a whole bunch of testimonials on there from people who have used it and it sounds almost to good to be true but I think Im going to try it and see if it makes me feel better. Does anybody know anything about colon cleansings?

woah woah WOAH. Ovarian cysts are NOT a big deal. I just got my first one that gave me bad pain and I'm only 14. I went to the ER like I mentioned before, they do not require antibiotics and that will not help a cyst.

Every month a woman develops a cyst on her ovary that bursts when the egg is released, but sometimes they don't burst and this leaves you with a cyst. They usually go down on their own in one-two months.

If they rupture it's not serious, just pain for awhile. If they get too big and aren't shrinking, they may want to remove it. He's telling you to take birth control because that'll help the cyst to shrink. They sometimes perscribe it when cysts aren't going down.

Cyst removal will NOT affect pregnancy or your chances in any way! The only way it would is if the cyst is cancerous or wrapped around an ovary and they have to remove ovaries, but even with one you can still get pregnant.

The doctor told me cysts are normal and women who have them hardly know it, but some cause pain and that's what you're experiencing. I know,I used to worry about mine too.

Im really not worried about the cysts, their non cancerous and the doc said they will go away on their own. What I am worried about is all the friggin pain I have been in. Ive noticed lately that I have also been having a lot of pain under my ribs. And yesterday I had a different kind of pain then I have been having lately, it felt more like a menstrual cramps and it was right in that area, I have no clue why I would be having those kinds of cramps but geez why not ad to the pain....

Does anyone out there know anything about colon cleansings?
