About a 2 months ago, my gyn told me that my pap came back with severe dysplasia (CIN I) and she scheduled me for a coloscopy. After having the coloscopy, she gave me the option of coming back for a checkup of the dysplasia or having a moderate LEEP done. After thinking it over, I decided to go for the LEEP and just get rid of the bad cells ASAP and see from there. I have a few questions that maybe someone here can answer :)

1. Do you bleed a lot after the procedure? And for how long?

2. I have read that you cannot have intercourse for 6-8 weeks after the procedure. Is this correct? :( And is intercourse painful after the wait time?

3. What are the chances that I have to get it done again. I know it's silly to ask for my particular chances, but I've read on this board of people having the procedure done 2 or 3 times.

Thanks for any info you might have for me! :)

Hi, I am a newbie to the boards. I had a LEEP procedure done for severe dysplasia a few months ago. Before I answer your questions, i wanted to clarify something. you said you had severe dysplasia, cin I. Cin I is mild dysplasia, severe dysplasia would be classifed as cin III (cin II is moderate). Make sure you check with your doctor what your diagnosis was.

If you indeed do have severe dysplasia, i think you made the right decision in getting the LEEP. For severe dysplasia, it is important to get it out so it doesnt progress to something further. As far as your questions: i did not bleed at all really after my LEEP, just some spotting the same day. However, i hear some women bleed more. I think it varies a lot. However I think they say that if you have to use more than 1 pad per hour after leep, then you should be concerned that you are bleeding too much. As far as sex for 6 weeks after, i think my doc may have only told me 4 weeks, but whatever your doc tells you, follow this time frame. Having sex before could harm your cervix that is trying to heal. But sex after is perfectly normal ;) Finally, it is true that some women have to have several procedures. sometimes the dysplasia comes back, bc it is often caused by a virus, HPV. I had an abnorman pap after my LEEP, so i will most likely have to have another procedure. just keep following your condition and stay on top of things!

Good luck!
Alex :)
