ok, so i have my surgery next monday morning to have my warts removed. my doctor said that before the procedure she's going to apply vinegar to infected areas to see if i have anymore that might pop up. i know that i have one near the entrance to my vagina, but it's very hard to see...i can only feel it, so i'm kind of worried that there might be more there that i can't see. then i have the one near my anus...that was the first one i noticed because it's rather large. since i last saw my doc (about 3 weeks ago) i haven't really paid much attention to what's going on down there, pretty much figuring she'd take care of it all next monday. however, today i checked myself out in a mirror to see if there had been any changes, and that's when i found about 3 more warts growing near my anus. i'm really getting kind of scared...i know that they will all be removed next week, but does the doctor do anything to prevent them from growing in more? will i have these ones removed, only to have to go back in a few months and have more removed, or does the surgery put them into remission? i really don't want to have this surgery on a regular basis :( i just can't believe how fast these warts have grown in...i just checked it 3 weeks ago and i only had one...now i have 3 or 4 more...please help.

You get the warts removed to keep them from spreading, so the surgery will help that aspect of the disease. You'll always have the virus, though, so that means the warts could come back.
I know it must be very scary for you, but you'll be ok :)

Hi, Ive been reading around the boards and saw that you have had them surgically removed. I noticed warts on my vagina about a month ago, first it was 2 or 3 now its like 10, some are brown and some are flesh colored, all different sizes. I am going to the community clinic next week and im kinda worried aobut the bill since I do not have any health insurance. When you got yours removed.. a. was it extremely painful? b. did it hurt afterwards c. how much was it d. did you have to take days off from work? I would really appreciate a reply back from you, I am so scared, I dont know what to do, scared of cancer and whatnot. Also, were you diagnosed with hpv? I read that just because you have the warts, it doesnt nessarily mean that it will lead to hpv/cancer. HELP!!!!! Please respond.

hi
yes, i was diagnosed with hpv...i didn't even have the warts yet (they just happened to show up a couple weeks later heh). i've never heard of having the warts and NOT having hpv  i'm not sure if that's possible. most likely if you do have warts, you don't have the cancerous hpv (although it is possible to be carrying more than one strand of the virus).
let me answer your questions in order:
a.) the surgery itself is NOT painful because you are put to sleep with anestesia, and when you wake up, your very numb down there and don't really feel anything. however, if you do feel pain when you wake up, tell them while you're still hooked up to the IV that way they can administer the pain meds right into that...it's much easier :)
b.) yes, there has been a little bit of pain since the surgery (mainly when i go to the bathroom) and some bleeding (which is all normal), but it's not unbearable. each doctor prescribes different things, but my doctor prescribed me antibiotics (which you most likely will have to take too) and also pain meds (of which i haven't felt the need to take any). i was also given cream to put on places that hurt (where she cut) just to cool it down and such. she also had me buy baby wipes to use after going to the bathroom just to keep the areas clean.
c.) the procedure itself, for me, was about $500+, but i only paid like $115 due to the fact that i have medical insurance. ALSO you have to keep in mind that you will be billed by the labs (they will most likely want to test you for hpv and possibly other stds, also they will want to do blood tests for the surgery and get a urine sample). i'm not exactly sure how much all that costs because i haven't gotten my bills yet, but they don't come all at once and i'm sure you can talk to them about possibly being on some sort of deferred payment plan where you just pay them monthly, but i'm not exactly sure about that.
d.) yes, i took two days off of work...the day of the surgery and the day after. i honestly could have gone back to work the day after, but chose to rest instead. i've always had a pretty high pain tolerance and have never reacted badly to a surgery (some people get sick for days after due to the anestesia), so i was fine, but everyone is different, so give yourself a couple of days for sure.
i hope i've helped you out a little. have you been checked out by your doc at all? if not, definitely get in a.s.a.p. when i first broke out, i only had about 2 or 3, but it quickly progressed to about 7 or 8, and they say that the longer you wait to have them treated, the harder they are TO treat. if they are just in the vagina, your doctor may be able to treat you right there in the office with acid (although, i won't lie to you, though i've never had it done, i've heard it hurts quite badly), but if you have any near the anus, they prefer to perform the laser surgery as to not cause harm to the anus (that's why i had the laser surgery).
good luck and let me know how it goes.

Thank you for your quick respond.. I will be going to the community clinic tomorrow, dont really know how good they are, but Im going to see if I can apply for the free medical assistant program, hopefully I get qualified, if not, then I will pay out of pocket monthly. Im pretty much expecting them to tell me I have hpv, I mean what else could it be, so I already prepared myself, it just sucks.. Ive never even heard of hpv until I noticed the bumps on my vagina. I gotten it from my ex fiancee, but it showed up on me a year later, b/c while we were still together, he cheated on me and thet female he cheated on me with, had it. Of course, he didnt tell me any of this until last month, and we've been broken up for little over a year.
But I am prepared. Sucks that their is no cure, but I read up on the internet, it was saying that if you have a strong immune system you can pobbibly fight off the hpv within a few years. I am going to try and get the surgery, b/c from what I heard also, it hurts like hell, and I cant afford to take any days off from work. Ok, well thank you, I will write in here within a few days to post what I have.... Also, one more question, do you have to take any kind of medication for the rest of your life when you have hpv? Thanks again!

nope, no meds for the rest of your life (that i know of). you will always have the virus and there's always a chance the warts can come back, but the surgery is meant to help prevent them from coming back any time soon, if ever.

Im just really scared and dont know howlong i will be in pain for or how long i willhave to take off from work. Im going in tomorrow tohave them burned off.

Ok well heres my update... I got my warts burned off this morning and I feel fine. It does hurt, feels like a burning sensation but then it goes away after a while once they put some cooling cream to the areas. I thought that I wouldnt be able to walk, but I can and I can go back to work tomorrow.
