hello all,
I am am new to this board. I am breast feeding my 6 week old daughter. I am pumping too but have no where to store the milk. Where i live the stores only sell breast milk storage bags that is fairly expensive. no containers or bottles. I dont really want to make any purchases on the internet either.

So my question is, can you store breast milk in little tupperware containers. it it safe to freeze them? do you have any other ways of storing and freezing the milk?
Any advise or help would be really helpful.

thanks.

What Type of pump are you using? You could just buy 4 oz or bigger bottles and store your milk in there, I know you can even freeze it for awhile. But aslong as the container is clean and kept at the right temp you should be able to use any plastic container.Good Luck!

I used to buy Platex disposable bottle bags. They are pretty cheap and you don't have to worry about cleaning them. Just pour your milk in them and put a twist tie on it and freeze it. You could store it in another container, andy container, but just make sure its clean.

I know this will sound really strange but when my son was admitted to the hospital and I couldn't breastfeed they gave me unused, urine test cups to store the milk in. They worked great!!! I even used them after he got home and I was stocking up.

I could tell how much was in each cup and how it looked through the container. It sealed tightly and reused well.

I think you can get them through your Doctor's office if you ask.

I use generic freezer bags. I just write the date and amount on the bag and freeze it. It is alot cheaper than the bm storage bags you can buy and when your ready to use it just put it in your bottle and warm it up. I use the Platex bottles with the disposable liners and I was too scared to twist tie them and freeze them, I was afraid they would leak or the tie would come off. Expressed breast milk only stays fresh for 48 hours in the refrigerator. You can freeze it for (I think they said up to a year) but I don't want to let it be older than 6 months. I know BF is alot of work but your doing a WONDERFUL thing for your baby and its MUCH cheaper!!!! Good Luck
