I was wondering if someone, who's had their belly button pierced, could help me out here. Just a question or two:

1. How much does it REALLY hurt? I'm sure it's different from everybody, but on a scale of 1-10

2. I found a place that'll do it for $45, is that a good price or should I go to the most exspensive place? I don't want to go cheap-cheap, but I also don't want to spend my life savings on a little jewelry piece, you know? haha

Lately I've been thinking a lot about getting mine pierced, but just wanted to know a little bit about it from someone who's gone through with it before. I can handle pain pretty well, so I don't think that will be a problem. But it would be nice talking to a fellow belly ringer (lol)

thanks!

Well I've had mine pierced for about 5 years now and I love it. As for your questions though:

1. It hurt me quite a lot (probably a 7-8) but it was so so fast. It hurt for all of a few seconds. So I wouldn't let that put you off.

2. I'm not sure about pricing as I live in Australia. I paid about $75 for mine and that is about average here. As long as where you are having it done is clean and they sterilise the instruments then it doesn't really matter if they are a little cheaper.

Check them out before you get it done though. Is the studio clean? Is the floor clean? Do they wear gloves?

As for not wanting to pay much for a little piece of jewellery, good luck :) By that I mean that when you get one and start to look at all the pretty belly jewellery out there you will find it hard to resist them. I have about 10 belly rings, 2 of them gold. And I will probably get more as time goes on. I think they are all so pretty, and there is so much to choose from!

Good luck to you though. I recommend them as I love the look of them.

Hi there,
I just wanted to add my story. I got mine pierced about 2 and a half years ago, and I swear to you, it did not hurt me one bit. It was a 0 on a scale of 1-10. I seriously didn't even know that she had pierced it when she was like "all done!". I really think it has something to do with how skilled the piercer is though. I live in Canada, and I paid $80 for mine--but I could've only paid $65 and had a ring (I got it pierced with a barbell). It is seriously the best $80 I've ever spent on myself (excluding the NEEDS in life). Even though I had quite a bit of trouble with it for the first year and a half or so--it was constantly infected, I should've just gone to the doctors, but I ended up fixing that little problem by using rubbing alcohol for about a week, 2x's a day, and I also put polysporin on my barbell, and then put it through the piercing. So I'm not sure what exactly did the trick, but whatever it was works for me.
Now my problem is that it seems to be migrating out rather quickly. I've noticed that there's not as much skin in the piercing as there was even a month or so ago. So I think I might have to go get it done again, but that's okay with me. So good luck with whatever you decide to do, and I hope some of this info was helpful!

Mine didn't hurt either - I wouldn't even register it as a 1. However, the first couple of weeks afterward, it was tender - especially when the barbell would catch on something & it would tug the skin. But it was never really painful.

I paid $35 for mine - and that was at a reputable piercing studio & included a high quality surgical steel barbell.

They didn't do anything to mine other than clean the area, mark it, have me check the placement, apply the *clamp/gude*, pierce, insert jewelry. No numbing spray.

When I got mine pierced, I barely even felt a thing! Just a pinch and that only lasted for seriously, like 1 second. Mine cost $45 and then an extra $5 to have the ring sanitized. They just let it sit in rubbing alcohol I think for like 10 minutes. It hurts for some people, and other people hardly feel a thing. Regardless though, any pain you do have, will only last a second, literally. Make sure you go to a place thats clean and has a good reputation. The guy who pierced me had about 20 piercings! A little scary at first, but when I started to think about it, I realized that this guy is probably really experienced and knows what he's doing, and he definitely did. Just really check the place out though before you go. Good luck!

Thanks for replying back. So is it better to get a barbell than a ring?
I suppose I could just go to a piercing shop and ask them all these questions..haha.

Oh I just thought of a question... I've seen some girls get their lower part of the belly button down, instead of the top part. what do you guys think of that? Do any of you have it on the lower?
I'll probably just go with the ring in the upper part, though.

$45 is reasonable. It doesn't hurt, it just stings alittle when it's over. It's a fast pierce so it's not like you're agonizing for minutes during the process. If you want it bad enough, suck it up and just do it! :) I let mine close. I went for quite a span of time without changing my ring and when I did go to change it, it was extremely sore. A belly ring is definitely a cute body accessory! :D

lol I guess it was a silly question to ask "does it hurt?", I mean yes it'll hurt a little because they're sticking a needle in, but not like 24 hours of straight agonizing pain. lol sorry my brain doesnt work all the time.

I got mine pierced about three years ago and it hurt like hell! Very tender for about a week and I never had one problem with it. Not one infection. I paid $80 and had a 14k gold barbell. The piercer said the barbells are better to start with, and then go to other things after you get used to it.
Sometimes bodies tend to "push" the piercing out. Make sure your piercer goes pretty deep when they pierce it. Make sure the studio is clean & sterile. I love mine and it was well worth the initial pain.

You won't be able to sleep on you stomach until the soreness subsides. But it's not bad. It'll be a sensitive area for the first few days, but its not like it's 24 hour pain, pain, pain where you need to be drugged for it or anything. It'll be just alittle sore, and then you'll be fine.

Cha-cha-chica you should definetly get it done!! It took me about 3 years to actually get mine done because i was afraid of how it was going to feel. Yes, it did hurt. On a scale from 1-10 I would rate my expierence an 8. But the pain was so fast!! So, if you really want to get it done, go for it!! the pain only last for about 20 seconds or less and its so worth it!! You will LOVE IT!!
Good luck! :)

When I got my navel ring the pain was about an 8. I think I would have teared up a bit if my friend had not been there at the time.

I do not regret getting the piercing at all I love having it. Once you get over the hurdle of actually doing it you should be satisfied if done correctly.

Good luck, I hope that you are happy with your choice.
