Hi!
I had a gastric bypass surgery 3 months ago and was wondering if anyone here has also had one and may be experiencing some of the same problems I am. I've lost 63 pounds and am thrilled! I've tried every diet known to man and due to some serious health complications had this surgery. But even with the good results I've had some problems that has made me doubt my decision.
I've been having trouble with ulcers developing on the lower part of my stomach pouch, where it's joined with the lower intestine. The dr said it's somewhat normal and is caused by the healing process. I have a friend at church that had the same surgery back in Oct and hasn't had the first problem. I was wondering why some people are more prone to certain things and not others.
Another problem I'm having is being able to eat meat. I can't have beef or pork til I'm 6 mths post op, and should be able now to eat chicken and turkey and fish. Problem is I can eat a little fish, but can't stand the taste. Chicken makes me sick every time I try it and I havent even tried turkey. I'm supposed to be drinking this protien stuff every day so I can get in at least 55 grams of protien a day, but the stuff is so nasty it has become more than I can do to gag it down. Does anyone know if they have protien in a tablet or pill form? Or something tasteless that can be added to regular food?
Also, if someone is reading this and having other problems, maybe they can post here and share their success and woes.

I've been drinking Whey protien from GNC. I've tried all the flavors and its the drink itself that is bothering me. The stuff I get from GNC has 23 grams of protien per serving. I've been mixing it with other things to make different flavors or even smoothies out of it, but theres only so many ways to fix it before you just cant stomach it anymore. :)

Try the Atkins Cafe Au lait protein shakes. I don't do Atkins at all but I have these shakes for breakfast because they taste so good and are very high in protein. Good luck.

Thanks Nikki! This is so funny, I just got off the phone with a friend thats just started doing Atkins. She's doing this before considering Bypass and seeing as how after surgery my diet is very similar to Atkins, she figures whats to hurt. lol Anyway, she just told me about all the different flavors of shakes Atkins has and that they actually taste good. :)
So, I don't believe in coincidence and see this as Someone telling me to try it!

I tried the shakes and like them. But they are a bit pricey. Almost $7 for 4 shakes...yikes! Anyone know anything as good with as much protien for not quite so much?

It's true, they are pricey. I buy mine from Walmart but I don't think it is much less than $7 - I just can't remember. It just seems like the cheeper stuff does not taste as good. You may have to experiment with protein powders and add your own fruits to it to make it taste good. Good luck.

Hi, I had my surgery January 1999. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I still have trouble eating meat but for me it is no big deal since I don't care for meat. I do have a problem with low iron and low b12, so I take iron pills and get a b12 shot every month. Sometimes I still get sick eating some things, like ice cream...lol. But trust me things get better every day. I was 295 the day I had my surgery and today I am 170. I did get down to 150 and then got a social life and new boyfried and didn't watch what I eat. I'm back on track now. Keep the faith and if you did a question answered just drop a line.
