hi everyone

I've never posted under this topic before and it feels weird! Anyway, I wondered if anyone could offer me any insight into the workings of my womb (lol). Basically, my last period was 2 whole years ago; before that it was always very rare and irregular. Im 22 and have had very few periods since I started. I would go 5 months without, then like 9 months, then just 1 month, etc. But this latest 2 year gap has been the longest ever. Im not on the contraceptive pill or anything, or taking anything that affects menstruation. I will add that I do have extreme depression and emotional worries though. Ive had mental problems much longer than Ive had periods. Im not worried, just wondered if anyone could offer any light on this.
Aint it tough being a woman? All these damn things we have to deal with! My very best wishes go out to you girls who may be suffering some awful health issues. My thoughts are with you, best of luck to you all.

lots of sister love, michelle xx

You need to talk to your doctor about this. I am going to assume that you dont have yearly paps because if you did your doctor would have asked about this and had started trying to figure out why you arent having periods. It is not normal to go that long without periods and could be a sign of major problems. Your hormones could be out of whack hence no periods and could be causing your depression. Please make an appointment with your doctor to get a pap and to start testing to find out what is going on.
You might be surprised and get the problem fixed and take care of the depression at the same time.

Deffinately speak to your doctor... I had a friend who had the same thing... extremely irregular periods all her life. S/he might try prescribing the Pill to help make your period regular.

Let us know what happens.

If I were you I'd definitely be overjoyed going 2 years without that cursed monthly cycle. When I missed mine for 4 months, it was like paradise. If you don't have it by the time you're 18, then you might have a problem, but I'm guessing you've had it before then so I think it's more or less a harmless issue.

Best o' luck to you.

Dark Stranger - wouldn't mind if her period took another 4-month vacation

I have had irregular periods my whole life also. When I was 16 I didn't have a period for a year and a half. then I got on the pill and it regulated me. Then I got off a year ago to get pregnant, I have had 2 kids in the past, but this time I haven't had a period since I stopped the pill. I went to the Dr and he said there is 2 reasons:
1. thyroid disorder
2. pituitary gland tumor
Both of which can cause depression.
Well my thyoid tests came back good and my Dr is pretty sure I have a pituitary tumor, which is kind of scary since it is located at the base of the brain.

Please, go to the Dr. this is not normal. If they blow you off, go to another Dr. This can be very dangerous to your health and lead to more problems.
