I have been experiencing diarrhea pretty well nonstop for a month now. I am on a medication that causes diarrhea when you first take it. It is only suppose to last a week then subside. I've been on this medication since May, my first week diarrhea, after that nothing until a doctors appointment about a month ago. Ever since that appointment I have had diarrhea, no changes in medication he did a rutine female exam, nothing out of the ordinary. My question is are there conditions out there that causes constant diarrhea? Could the doctor have done something I didn't feel that might affect my bowels? Please help, this is the worst kind of diarrhea, the kind that keeps you awake all night and I've had it so long it's to the point in which anti-diarrheal pills don't affect it at all.

Have you spoken to your MD about the diarrhea??I know it took me a year of diarrhea on and off(but more on)before I got a definitive diagnosis. I can relate to your situation totally, I don't so much have it wake me at night but during the day its very limiting as far as to what I can do, where I can go. Do you notice anything stressful around the times you get flareups? Mine does what it wants, some days I can go out, eat, enjoy life and no problem but other days I cannot leave the house. Good luck and if you haven't done so please speak to your doctor.

If you have diarrhea for more than a few days you should contact your Doctor.
The medicine is obviously not working for you and does not do the same for everybody. We are all different.

With diarrhea you can become dehydrated-- lose electrolyes( potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium) and as you know you do not absorb vital nutrients/ vitamins and minerals. Malabsorption syndrome is a very dangerous disorder.

You have to make the call before it does something that is irreversible.

God Bless---Harry

I had diarrhea everyday for two months. I couldn't figure it out, so I kept playing with my diet. Seeing if I could make it go away on my own. Eventually when I took almost all the fat out of my diet, it stopped. I now stick to a very low fat diet, under 15 grams a day. If i get much more then this, the diarrhea comes back. Pinning down digestive disorders can mean lots of tests to tell you what it is not, which I am just not willing to do. I did one to make sure it wasn't my gallbladder, which it wasn't. The doctor thinks I am lacking an enzyme, which would help my body digest fat. Plus, I am supposedly not getting enough fiber, so now I take fiber pills.
My suggestion is to first try and take fat out of your diet for a few weeks and see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't then try taking other things out. Digestion is tricky and problems can pop up out of nowhere.... one day you can digest food just fine, the next day you can't.

Hi there!! I have been experiencing D since Sunday. My situation is wierd b/c I was chronically constipated for 3yrs needing suppositories to take a BM. Now that on July 30th of 04' I had my hemmorhoids removed I was going normally for once!!! yeah! but sunday it took a turn. I am on Zelnorm which wasn't helping now my Hemmorhoids are gone it might be taking me from one extreme to another. I would say call your doctor. I am going to by Friday if it continues. Try adding more insoluble fiber to your diet. Dont' use any stool softeners. it can be tricky!! keep us up to date.
