Here is some information about a study carried out in India in 1999, which demonstrated an Lp(a)-lowering effect of hydrosoluble Coenzyme Q10. Other positive benefits were noted as well, such as an overall increase in HDL, etc.

WOW...that'e really something! I take that particular product..100mg daily. The article limited the results to patients with severe coronary disease. Hope it works for those without that condition as well.

Yes, I take the Q-Gel too. But in any case, this may explain why statins tend to elevate lipoprotein(a) levels in some people. Statins deplete CoQ10, and low CoQ10 levels may cause a rise in Lp(a).
In fact, in the fine print from Lipitor's Canadian ads, it states in part the following: "In some patients, the beneficial effect of lowered total cholesterol and LDL-C levels may be partly blunted by a concomitant increase in Lp(a) lipoprotein concentrations. Present knowledge suggests the importance of high Lp(a) levels as an emerging risk factor for coronary heart disease."
Strangely, this important information does not appear in the American ads.

I take Co Q-10 also, but not the Q-Gel brand. Just curious but where do you get Q-Gel? Is it available in most pharmacies ?? I don't believe I have seen it.
Thanks, Brenda

ARIZONA,
How do I get the article in full...all I see is a couple sentence ABSTRACT? Are you getting the full article?
Do you have a ScienceDirect subscription?
All I can think of is to physically go into Manhattan to the Medical Research library and pull the Journal, paper version...tedious at best!

Brendap,
I haven't seen Q-Gel in any stores, either. It's manufactured by Tishcon Corporation. I order it over the internet from a company called Epic4health. There may be other suppliers as well.
Zip2play,
No, I haven't seen the entire article, either. In fact, I just accidentally happened to come across this information myself while browsing through another website.
