What really is the deal with FDA approved medicine? I mean it is something that has been tested and they found it it really works. I'm just wondering what the difference is between the diet pills that are FDA approved and those that aren't.

If it isn't FDA approved, it probably just means that it has nothing in it that is considered a "drug" by the FDA. Herbs aren't regulated by the FDA. Hope that helps!

Yes that helps...I just wonder all the study they really do on these FDA medicines.. I seen on tv the other day where this company that made some kind of antidepressant was having these doctors prescribe them to everyone they possibly could and the company was giving the doctors trips and vacations for doing this. I just don't know anymore about doctors. I don't trust them but I'm hoping this guy I am going to for my thyroid atleast cares a little not just to prescribe me medicine I don't really need just so he can go on vacation ;)

Yep, the drug companies definitely do that with doctors. I hate doctors too. When the FDA approves something, it just means that they have determined it to be safe and effective. Of course, phen-fen was FDA approved :)
On a smaller scale than big vacations and stuff, the drug reps visit doctors all the time and give them little stuff...tickets to ball games, take the whole office out for steak dinners, stuff like that. When I was working in pharmacy, they did that, but on even smaller scale. They would have pizza delivered to us, bring baskets of cookies, stuff like that.
I'm sure there are some "good" doctors out there, but how in the world do you find them??? And heck, if they are any good, then they probably don't participate in any managed care insurance plans/HMO's, so not many of us could afford them anyway :)

I am so dumb when it comes to people and how they really are. I try and see the good in everyone which isn't a bad thing but sometimes that keeps my eyes completely closed to what they are doing and how they really are. I can't believe doctors would accept things like that. It's just not right. I want a doctor that cares about me and how I feel. But thats wishful thinking.
Take Care:)

I know what you mean...I always let people walk all over me, am blind to things that are obvious to others. Working in pharmacy and having the bad experiences with doctors, though, has made me pretty pessimistic about the medical profession. I guess if you are rich, you can afford to find the best doctors, but when you have no insurance (or just an HMO which is just as bad, LOL), and no money, you are at the mercy of these quacks who probably barely made it through medical school and are only in it for the money. I have come to see doctors as a necessary evil that I only need for their prescription writing abilities. I do all the research I can, make my own self-diagnosis, and then go to the doctor and tell them what I want. That irks a lot of them, but I don't care what they think of me anymore. Wanting them to "like" me doesn't get me the treatment I need, so screw 'em. Sorry for the rant!

Rant all you want :D It does get frustrating. People you should be able to trust especially with your health and life you can't. I do alot of research also about meds for my anxiety, depression and ocd disorder and tell the doc what I think I need and they don't like this to well...probably because that certain company isn't giving them a vacation...LOL :p I really don't like going to the doctor cause everytime I go it seems like they find something else wrong with me and the last time I went it was my thyroid. So it's like they get their money and I get a new illness. :D

LOL!!! I'm just getting a picture of walking in, paying your money, and being told you have a new illness. Try not paying, I bet they tell you you are perfectly fine!! Hahahahaha

LoL...YOU ARE SO RIGHT!
I say I have no money and they would tell me I was in the best shape ever and then kick me out the door :D
