After my son was born in 2001, I started takign Depo Provera.
I weighed approximately 190 lbs. After three years of depo, and a multitude of horrible side-effects (main ones including Panic attacks and 50lb weight gain), the weight gain was the worst. Two months ago I checked my weight, which was 240 lbs. After eating properly for two months, I weighted myself and I didn't even lose one pound!!
So I read up on depo, and found out the true reasons for my side-effects. So I switched to Alesse, a birth control pill. I have been on a major diet (eating only 10 grams of fat a day and rigorous exercising) and I now weigh 239 lbs. after one week.
I am beign told that since I'm so "fat" my birth control pill won't work. Is this true??

I have heard that somewhere too, but I don't know if it's true. I've been on BC pills for several years with my weight yo-yo'ing between being 40-100 pounds overweight, and I haven't got pregnant, so I'm not real worried. I even switched to a low-dose pill about a year ago with no problems. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this rumor?

I think I read that in Cosmo before. I'm not sure how true it is. I am about the same weight as you and have been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for 3 years. I haven't had problems with it, but I also use a second form of birth control just to be safe. I haven't had my doctor tell me that the pill will be less effective because of my weight. Maybe there is someone who can tell us because I have wondered this too.

Well I weigh 232 and I have been taking BC for years, and I have not gotten pregnant. Right now I take Seasonale.
I read that article too, about how being overweight can make BC less effective. I asked my gyno if this is true, and guess what she said to me: "If you are worried about it why don't you lose weight?" That was the last time I ever saw her-I couldn;t believe the rudeness.
