This is my first post to this site. I have a dull ache continually in my lower back just above the tailbone. It feels better when I am standing or walking and is worse when sitting for long periods of time or sleeping. Its particularly annoying when trying to get to sleep. I am going to a chiropractor today. I have been to him before for other things, and I know he will tell me to put ice on it and probably give me some exercises to do. I can't think of what I might have done to cause this latest back ache, but it could be the shoes I'm wearing. I notice when I wear flip flops my back seems to hurt later that same day. Does anyone else experience this?

I have a lower back pain and no leg pain. I have had it for over a year. Had MRI and it showed a high intensity annular tear on my L4/L5 disc. annular tears are hard to heal once it has been torn. If it does not heal within a month i would get on the ball and get it checked out. One thing for sure if you want to get rid of that pain. Do not lift anything and avoid twisting so much and ice your back. I have had chiropractic, PT, and accupuncture and nothing has helped yet. good luck I know that pain really sucks!

Sounds like you need to see an orthopeadic surgeon to get some xrays, and then possibly MRI if that's incunclusive. Beleive it or not, fallen arches in your foot can also cause lower back pain. Wearing shoes with arch support is always helpful for bad backs.
Good luck, hope it's nothing too serious.
