 Last year I started getting a small paperlike cut right at the hair line above the urethra. I think I first had it in the fall of 2002? I got it again New years 2003, and then 6 weeks later. After that it became more frequent, it took 4 weeks, then 2 weeks, ect. I went to the ob and they have done 2 or 3 cultures. All came back negative. In June 2003, I made them do a blood test, and it came back showing the "new" antibody for herpes. So, it was in my system, but not coming back positive on cultures.

My husband has no symptoms. I started taking L-Lysine in June and had one small one in Nov. 2003, but now I have it again. (Aug. 2004). Has anyone ever had this. The doctors don't know if it is or isn't. When I do get it, it usually only last 2-3 days. It made me very depressed last year, because it was my first year in my marriage, and it's just sad that it showed up so long after. The only other symptom I ever had was the fall of '99. me and my husband (not at that time though, we were just getting back together) spent the weekend together. Well the day we got back that whole area was one fire. I went and got in the tub and it was almost like you could see the steam rising it was so hot, but after that it went away, and nothing for over a year. There were no sores at that time. If anyone could help that be great. I just wish i knew what it was.

I've had the paper cut symptom also. Taking a bath was a good idea. My outbreaks are actually different each time; a cut or two, a sore lesion, itching, that firey hot feeling. Sorry you have it, sorry we all have it. Stress has so much to do with outbreaks so try to stay cool...and good luck.

Yes, paper cut sores are fairly common. Since your symptoms come and go which is the trademark of herpes, you most likely have it. Also, your blood test proves it.

Sorry to hear it, but hang in there. If you feel the outbreaks are too often or painful try valtrex. It has done wonders for my cold sores. I hear it works well for genital as well.

Good Luck.

How long can you have this before it shows up? Since the first time anything like this happend was after I was with my husband and he has no symptoms.

rgriffin,
How high was your antibody count? A high count suggests that you had it for a while. On the other hand, a low count means you contracted it more recently.

A high count is around 2.0 and low is just over 1.0.

I have no idea what the number was. The last time I talked to someone, they said it looked like they tried to grow it and read it a couple of times, and there was nothing, but then later there was. They still said that people could have antibodies, because they came it contact with it, but not necessarily have it. It seems like no one knows for sure.

That's correct, sometimes persons test positive and don't really have it.

I would have another test if I were you after a month or two. If the antibody count in your blood increases then you probably have it for sure.

On the other hand, if it stays the same or decreases then you probably never had it.

A second test will help you know for certain and then you could put your mind to rest.

Good Luck.

Thank you. I have my annual the end of this month, so I will get them to do another test.

Some people have the h lay dormant for decades before it shows up.
