I was surfing the net to research my husband's upcoming surgery. I found a site that not only went into depth, it had pics and where everyone was to stand during the Operation, etc. After reading it, I realized that it was a site for docs not laymenn. Anyway, there was one portion that I found to be rather odd. The laid out the following factors for turning down a potential back patient (this is only a small portion of the reasons):

Three or more of the psychosocial factors: alcoholism/drug dependence, recent or pending divorce, high level of job dissatisfaction, pending litigation, depression, multiple unsuccessful surgeries, smoking one or more packs/day, Waddel test score of three or more (symptom magnification)

As we read, we realized that in order to have the surgery, we had to do a careful count. Has anyone ever seen this list before? I knew about the smoking but some of the other ones seem unreasonable such as the job satisfaction one.

go figure.

I've never seen this list before either!! That's just awful, how can they choose like that?? I also knew about the smoking part, but not the rest of it!! It sure does explain though, why you hear about so many people that don't get any real help until after their lawsuit or WC claim!!
I'm still dealing with my lawsuit, and have been told that surgery's not an option for me, and noone really wants to do anything for me, other then meds!! Now I wonder why?? Thanks for the info, take care!!
