I took theodur just about every day for 2-3 years when I was a teenager. The dosage was based on my weight - which was 90 pounds at the time. My blood levels were never checked. I took myself off it b/c I felt that it wasn't doing my asthma any good and that it was very dangerous to me. I had a lot of shakes/jitters, headaches, etc. I won't take it again. Yes, I was underweight all the time I was on it.

1) At what age did u start taking it?
Somophyllin (liquid) at age 8 when first diagnosed.
Theophyllin capsules at age 11 - except I didn't learn to swallow pills until I was 14 - so would have to break it open and mix it up with applesauce.
2) what was your total daily dosage?
Two or three teaspoons a day of Somophyllin
Two Capsules a day of Theophylliin. - Except I wasn't that consistent because it made me feel so bad.
3) what other meds were u on?
Age 10 I started on an albuterol inhaler - and was tried on other things that didn't seem to work so well. Later, I got a nebulizer.
4) Did u have any nauseous side efects?
YES!!!! One of the reasons I neglected to take it half of the time. That, and being a teenager, I think.
5) Did u have any heart side effects?
My heart would race and my anxiety would get worse - which was bad considering I always had some degree of anxiety pre-medication.
6) if so, do heart problems run in your family?
Ancestors have died of such problems - including a grandfather.
7) Do u have any medical records available of your blood pressure or resting heart rate when u were on the drug?
NO
8) During the time u took the drug, do u think u were larger/fatter or smaller/thinner than an average person of your age?
I wasn't consistent about taking it - but I was definitely fatter than others my age - but I was also on Prednisone bursts every now and then at the same time.
9) How long have u been taking it?
I stopped taking it for good in 1996. It didn't seem to do anyting for my asthma, and just always made me feel sick. Also, I started seeing a new allergist who tried me on completely different and newer medications which worked wonders for me.
10) How much caffeine do u drink in a day (Cola, coffee, chocolate)?
No cola or coffee (yuck) - but some occaisional chocolate indulgences - probably 1 to 2 times a week.

I used to take theophylline..
1) At what age did u start taking it? ---- 14
2) what was your total daily dosage?---- Anywhere from 1-2 capsules a day based on how I was feeling. I know, I know... it's not good to change your own dosages.
3) what other meds were u on?---- Advair, Astelin, Nexium, albuterol, prednisone, Allegra, Flovent, Avelox on and off, Singulair... I think that's all.
4) Did u have any nauseous side efects? ---- Oh yes.
5) Did u have any heart side effects? ----Yeah.
6) if so, do heart problems run in your family?---- Not really... my sister has a mitral valve prolapse, but that's all.
7) Do u have any medical records available of your blood pressure or resting heart rate when u were on the drug?---- No, but I took my resting heart rate myself at one time - 140. My blood pressure tends to be high though.
8) During the time u took the drug, do u think u were larger/fatter or smaller/thinner than an average person of your age? ----I lost some weight because when I'm nauseous, looking at food isn't an option.
9) How long have u been taking it? ---- I took it for about a week and then stopped.
10) How much caffeine do u drink in a day (Cola, coffee, chocolate)? ---- None
Thanks guys. Thats all there is for now![/QUOTE]

Swimfast:
I have noticed that u have only taken theophylline for 1 week in your whole life. I will have to take your answers with a bit of caution as a result!
Was your heart rate of 140 taken during that week or is it your normal heart rate anyway?
