Hi all, I'm new to the board and have been searching the internet for information on flovent side effects. The doctors originally wanted me to do large doses (60+ mg) of prednisone, which I refused to do, but compromised to large doses of flovent. Last August I started on flovent 8 puffs of 220 mg daily. I maintained that dose for six months and have weaned myself down to 3 puffs. However, I still have two agonizing side effects: One, is the inability to lose weight--my body seems to absolutely REFUSE to drop weight. Even when I fast with a total juice caloric intake at 1000 calories or less for 3 days! I don't get it. The second side effect, (at least I believe it's a side effect because it began shortly after starting flovent) is spontaneous crying. I have NO syptoms of depression. I enjoy life and regular activities as much as before but I cry out of the blue--for any type of emotion. If I'm joyful, sad, or just touched by what I see or hear. I also have some irritability, but with few exceptions have been able to keep that under control. Has anyone else experienced this with flovent? If so, what have you done to abate the symptoms?? I'm wondering if there are supplements or something that can regulate mood... I'd prefer that route over adding a psychotropic med to my medicine cabinet.

It's really rare for folks on inhaled steroids to suffer these side effects b/c the inhaled version can't get into the bloodstream the way oral steroids do. On the other hand, that doesn't mean it isn't at all possible. There's a really good book called "Coping with prednisone" that talks about how to deal with the weight gain and the mood swings. Certain foods can help curtail the mood swings.
