Ok... I do know that there is no cure for herpes. I do know there is things like valtrex that helps suppress outbreaks. But... does anyone know if the medical field is still currently trying to find a cure. Or are they close to a cure?
I dont mean to sound dumb or ask dumb questions.. I really just dont know. I never had to think about it before, until jsut this week. So, now im trying to find out everything i can.

thanks!

From what I've read, there is no cure in the immediate future. However, researchers are working on a vaccine for those that haven't been infected.

So far, it seems to work far better on women than men.

If perfected for all, then hopefully this would mean that all those infected with the herpes virus will not have to worry about passing it on to others anymore so long as the whole population obtains the vaccine.

Let's all cross our fingers

Ok well that is at least hopeful.
I will def keep my fingers crossed. I wish i had been part of that group to have tested that vaccine out!

There's a whole conspiracy theory out there that they could cure H, after all, they cured smallpox, a much deadlier virus. However, there's the rub. H isn't going to kill you (not by itself anyway). In the meantime, it is a very lucrative disease from a pharmecutical standpoint. Personally I find it hard to believe that there isn't some chance of a cure out there....even if it is a preemptive one (which doesn't do much for those of us already infected, but it would be nice).
A friend of mine theorizes that before AIDS, H was a primary concern for STD research, but once AIDS hit, resources and time and energy was diverted from the non-deadly H to combat AIDS.
At any rate, I do hold some out hope that the medical community is concerned about controlling if not curing H. And, at the rate that people are getting it in this country, that concern should increase, not the opposite.

Personal opinion, if they really threw the money at it they would figure it out in a shorter period of time. Now that they know how to close they will be able to develop better drugs in the future. Remember though, these are public companies. Valtrex will pull in more over the next 30 years than an immediate cure for the entire world.

My hope though is that through AIDS cures they are able to attack the Herpes since there seem to be some similar traits. I'm not holding my breath. Just trying to get into my second year and hoping my body does better with this and my OBs go down.
