Hello,

My uric acid levels have been consistently elevated for the last 2 years. They are normally on the higher side of the normal range (like 7.8, 7.9 etc). This is causing severe inflammation in my knees accompanied by pain, redness, and hotness. The doc says that i have gout due to my high uric acid.

Well, my liver is in bad shape for the last 4 years. I have elevated ALT figures. In pure medical terms; i have a slightly enlarged liver. The hepatologist says that i have NASH (Non alcoholic Staetohepatitis). I also have high choleterol. So to sum up, my liver is down and under!

How can i reduce my uric acid? I have been prescribed allopurinol. But besides that what changes do i have to make in my diet to lower my uric acid? Also i have heard a lot about detoxifying the liver. What is it actually? Is there a good liver detoxifying diet? Please provide free info regarding this (i can't buy expensive books). Also apart from taking medicines what can be done to reduce cholesterol?

One last question, does uric acid has anything to do with retaining urine. I have fell into a habit where i try to delay going to the toilet (despite strong urge) as long as i can. Many a people have told me that this causes uric acid to rise.

I have also heard that drinking a lot of water causes uric acid to fall. But exactly how much is "a lot"?

I would be very appreciative of any replies.

Thanks!
