I just started using Bare Minerals foundation. I like it, but the appearance of my skin has taken some getting use to. I know it sounds weird, but it's like I look too "perfect". Almost like a doll's face. And my skin kinda glows. I was wondering about the Mineral Veil. What exactly does it do? I know some women want that luminous appearance, but to me it looks too shiny. I bought my Bare Minerals at the Ulta Cosmetic store. It was $25 for the foundation and $20 for the warmth. I hate to spend another $20-$25 for the Mineral Veil unless I know it is going to improve the overall appearance. I have always bought drug store brands like Loreal...so this was quite a splurge for me. Ulta did say they would exchange products you are not happy with, so I guess I could try it without risk. I looked on ebay and other sites on the web. It sounds like a good deal until you check the sizes. Most are fractions of a regular size jar. My $25 jar was .3 oz. Many of the sizes on the internet were .06. I also called the infomercial and asked their sizes. The girl on the phone said the foundation was 2 grams. I think there are 28 or 30 grams in an ounce, so that is a small jar also. And, the shipping and handling charge on their sample kit was $9.99. Were they delivering it by taxi? Anyway, I'd love to here your experiences with the Bare Minerals make-up and especially the Mineral Veil. Thanks!

That is the real you showing instead of the make up!!
It's great isn't it? Just takes some getting use to.
I LOVE mineral veil. It's the consistency of baby powerd. For Me I put it on under my fondation. It minimizes the look of pores and just gives your face a nice finish. I would recommend it.
Be careful on ebay as you never know how old the product is.
I have never gotten so many compliments on my skin. I have yet to have one pimple since I started to use this stuff. I have a rather large collection.
I use the Mineral veil then put the fairly light fondation on I use the well rested eye shadow which is wonderful then warmth. Sometimes I use Warm radience for blush too. I Love their magic wand brushless mascarra. This stuff takes one quick coat and stays on all day, no smudges or runs.
I get all mine from QVC you can look on there as they offer great package deals that often come with the mineral viel.

Kaycee - that's one of the reasons BE didn't work for me. I really didn't like the shiny look. BE uses shiny mica & bismuth oxychloride - both of which are shiny/reflective. Some people like that look - others don't. The mineral veil made absolutely no difference in the way the makeup looked on my skin. It was still shiny.

There are plenty of other mineral makeups out there that are made with matte mica & no bismuth - and the prices are a fraction of BE's. I've tried many of them & have been satisfied with several.

I had shine at first too! I called the Help Line on QVC and I was buffing too much. It does take some getting use to and for me the mineral veil helps.
The more you "buff" the more shine you get. I need to use the mineral veil Under the fondation instead of on top of it? there are No rules with Bare Minerals it just takes practice. I Love this stuff and you their entire line of products right down to skin care and body scrubs. It does seem expensive but believe me it last a long, long time. Good Luck and keep us posted :)

Mineral veil reduces the glowy look when used on top of the BE. I like it but dont use it daily, only when its really humid or I am going out.
The perfect look you see is the great part about BE, I get so many compliments on it.
I do get my BE stuff off ebay--a large jar of makeup costs me about $22 inc.shipping.

I noticed on the Bare Minerals wed site that the mineral veil is a corn starch base. Has anyone tried using corn starch? I wonder if you would get the same results as with the mineral veil. Wouldn't it be a joke if we were paying $20 for .3 oz of corn starch...sometimes I feel like such a fool when I buy over-priced cosmetics. I could be talked into anything if I thought it would make me "gorgeous"!

I got my corn starch out and it is different? They must use it as a base and add minerals to it?? All I know is it works great for me.

I think the shiny look your getting is from using a warmth or buff under the foundation... i started using bare minerals after using liquid foundation (which i felt really shiny) and right now I use the bare minerals foundation and the mineral veil over it... i dont use a base under the foundation... i feel i have a very matte look... the mineral veil DEF helps with shine... i would try not using the warmth or buff under which i think it's point is to boost shine and illumination... the foundation alone covers AMAZING and the mineral veil helps the look of pores and shine... I'm a BE addict already!

I absolutely have to have mineral veil over the foundation or my face just looks too cakey and bumpy. The mineral veil makes it all look so smooth. BE is the only thing that really covers my acne.

Does Bare Minerals sell more than just color? Like skin care products especially for dark circles under the eye area?

You can call and get their booklet with all their products. I use the well rested eye shadow under and on my eyelids. One of the beauties of this stuff is there are no rules it's all up to you. You can mix and match colors. I mix fairly light with mineral veil and use the warmth. My next purchase will be one of the blushes.
