welshboy 08-15-2004, 03:00 PM coming off 60mg citalopram to 40mg for 3 days and then 20mg for 10...any experiences to share please? Sponsor kimba28 08-17-2004, 07:09 PM yeah...but first...how is it going for you? Glenzo 08-17-2004, 07:16 PM Hi, I currently take 20mg Cipramil (Citalopram) First of all ignore all that nonsense some people say about SSRIs/ADs (I never hear anybody telling someone not to take their heart, blood pressure, epilepsy or thyroid tablet that keeps them ticking over). If a chemical in the brain is insufficient why should taking a pill to sustain this be any different than say topping up on Thyroxine because your thyroid's out of whack!) I'm a 29 year old otherwise healthy Irish lad and used to be on 40mg I had a lot of hit and misses trying to get from 40 to 20 but eventually after several attempts over several months managed. I was down to 10mg for about 2-3 months but had some of the nastier anxiety and you know the way you can go into a trance like way within yourself where you can be very analylitcal of little silly irrelevant things - like that so I'm on my 20 mg again. RELUCTANTLY I would add as Cipramil has dampened my sex drive (still want it), don't get as turned on with my girl and have orgasm probs. I recommend not rushing, I know weeks and months sound a long time, also use a holdiay as a means of reducing, that's how I suceeded last year coming from 40-20 (went to Portugal). If you feel a little dickey when you reduce or stop don't panic. Give it a few days and hopefully it'll pass, if not go back on a dose that settles you. This in my opinion is the bodies way of saying no, don't hit the brakes yet. Especially when my life circumstances aren't the best for coming right off of them. Anyway all the best, take one day at a time. Let me know of your experiences so far and from a male point of view what side effects do you suffer from Cipramil. welshboy 08-18-2004, 04:15 AM Im coming of citaloprap to go onto Zispin and I can not take the two together coz of Seratonin Syndrome or something. Do you know if the fact that I am starting a new medication will mean that it will cancel out the bad effects of coming of citalopram? I am due to start my new medication tomorrow night and overlap them for a week. I have gone from 60mg last Friday to 40mg on Sat and down to 20mg yesterday. I feel pretty rubbish but I did when I was on the Citalopram as it was not stopping my depression any more - I was on it for 5 years!!! Thanks. Glenzo 08-18-2004, 08:02 AM I couldn't answer that one. I reckon the best thing to do when you're ensure of medications is to ring the chemist and ask the pharmicist, as whilst the Doctors Prescribe drugs Pharmicists know more about the actual drugs. I've done this and they're helpful and discrete. |
