Sit-ups (or crunches) will help to strengthen your abdominal muscles, but won't help you lose fat. You should combine them with some cardio to burn fat, and of course, eat healthy.

Try doing a range of abdominal exercises, including work for the lower abominals (reverse crunches) and obliques (like the Pilates criss-cross move). It is still best to combine with some regular cardio, since cardio and toning help each other to be more effective. I have found that Pilates is very effective in toning my entire body, particularly my torso and abs. I had a baby 2 months ago, and I can't wait to get rid of that nasty flab. :)

sit-ups are worthless. you won't get good results with them even if you so 100 a day. crunches are the only way to go when working on your abs. just make sure you do them correctly or they will be of no use. cheers.

you really don't need to be concerned with the number of crunches that you do. you need to be concerned with your form. form is the most important aspect of a crunch. 10 crunches in perfect form will give you better results then 30 in poor form. your body will tell you when you've done enough crunches (i.e. you won't be able to do anymore). you really only need to work your abs twice a week if you work them hard. you can work them three times a week if you really want but any more and you'll overtrain them. i only work my abs twice a week and i've got a "six pack". the key to a flat stomach isn't working your abs. everyone has flat or six pack abs. the key is to remove the layer of fat covering your abs. the only way to do that is to do cardio. you can't just burn fat off of your stomach by doing sit-ups or crunches. it doesn't work that way. you can't just burn fat from a target area. cheers.

regular sit ups won't get your lower stomach flattened. try the reverse situps.

lay on your back and bring your legs, slightly bent, up towards your head and then bring them back down but don't let them touch the ground. you'll feel it.
