Hi
I am looking for any help or advice anyone can give me. Last week I noticed black and blue bruising on my lower left leg. It has over a few days turned black in places. In the shower today I noticed that the veins in that leg are now sticking out and vry ugly. It looks like the sort of thing some women get at a certain age. You know lumpy veins. No, I am neither elderly nor a woman. My right leg is fine. I have been getting a lot of leg, ankle and toe cramps for a few weeks.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Brend,

I would go to the doctor. Now I have tiny bruises all the time from being clumsy and bruising easily from fibro. But I've never had something like that without knowing how I got it. And never veins pooping out. You better get it checked out.

Let us know what you find out? Hope you're alright. - Andy

Thanks Andy,
Veins and lumpy leg gone eased today. I have more bruising on leg and now on my left arm as well. I did not go to the doc as I want to wait to see what developes. I am at the stage where I am embarrassed to go to the doc with yet another symptom. I know I should get it checked out but I cannot face going to the doc as I know he will start me on yet another round of tests. I dont have the energy for all that.

Brend,

How did you get the bruise? If you don't know how it came about, you really should see a doctor about it, since it's on your arm too. Doctors need to know these kinds of things.

Yes aaronon, that was my point too. Are you sure you didn't bump into something in the night on the way to the toilet or something Brend? I know it's hard to go with yet another symptom but since it's in your arm too now this could be something really bad. Not to scare you but it really needs to be checked if you can't remember having any kind of bump or fall. It doesn't have to be a huge major accident to make a bad bruise. That's what fibro does is makes you bruise easier. BUt please if it doesn't have an origin or get better go to the doc.

I've gotten enormous bruises before from just bumping into a counter, etc. But like I said I can always trace it to something that happened.

Take care and keep an eye on the problem. - Andy

Thanks for the advice. I woke up today with the bruising having gone down but those lumpy protruding veins in my left leg are back worse than ever. The vein goes from my ankle to my thigh and is very pronounced. I am phoning the doc today to have it checked out. Will keep you informed.

Brend it's always best to check out unexplained bruising. I had a weird bruise on my R wrist a few days ago and I couldn't figure out where it came from. After I thought a bit, I was in the hospital and they were handling my R wrist for pulse, needles etc... It's starting to fade now, so I think that's where it came from. Other causes of bruising besides injury, could be anemia, scurvy, Immune disorders, certain medication like prednisone and others, and certain diseases. This is a pretty general list and your bruising may be caused by something simple, but it's best to check it out to make doubly sure. . Good luck

My update on bruising and "lumpy veind". I went to my GP and he did some basic tests. My blood pressure is alarmingly high and he has referred me for further tests. The veins he says are Varicose Veins, but he is concerned at the speed at which they have worsened. From perfect to awful in two weeks. He says it may all be related to meds and in particular to the steriod Prednisone which I have been taking for the past ten months and Nardil (MAOI). These was prescribed by a consultant who specialises in Fibro and CFS and who my gP referred me to.
Anyway well spotted Dorri with your reference to the steroid. Sometimes I think we know more about this illness and all of its nuances than most docs. I dread another round of tests but I know it has to be done.

Thanks all for pussing me.

Good luck with your results. It sometimes relieves us just to know what's going on. Have a nice day.
