Hello, I'm trying find out something and I'd appreciate anyone's advice on this. I've been working out for several months and doing some cardio as well.
I've also been taking a lot of protein (shakes 2-3 times a day). My main problem is that I've been trying to lose fat and I wanted to know if taking protein was affecting my weight loss. Should I cut out the protein or reduce it ?
I have another question: Can taking protein shakes for long periods of time (several months) be harmful to my body ?
Thanks people!

The protein itself is not hurting fat loss. But if the extra calories are not cut out from somewhere else, then that will definitely cause you problems. Getting more protein (about 1g per pound of body weight) is good because it helps your body maintain lean muscle mass, which in turn helps to burn fat. Just make your overall calories are low enough to be burning fat (daily caloric deficit).

As long as it is not your only protein source, no. Use shakes just for supplementation, but not as a meal staple. Real food is always best (except post workout) if you can fit it in, but sometimes shakes are just more convenient. I have had 1 or more shakes a day for years and am in tip top shape and health.

if you're working out to lose weight and not to gain muscle then you're just wasting your money consuming 2-3 protein shakes a day!!! one in the morning when you first wake up is all you really need. cheers.

I'd go with DJ VIO - if weight/fat loss is your primary concern and your diet is healthy, lose the extra shakes. One a day to supplement your protein intake is fine if you are doing weights, just remeber that they still contain calories and to lose fat you must be using more calories than you are consuming.
