Hello, I have a question about CBT. I have perfectionism, symmetry, and order OCD. No other symptoms. How can a doctor perform CBT in his/her office for me? The only things I'm a perfectionist about are things at my home and no where else. How can they help me when we are in their office. If their stuff is out of order I could care less. Is this something I will to work on at home or can they help me otherwise?

I'd really appreciate any input. I have an appt. this Thursday at $120.00 per visit and I don't want to waist my time or money if he can't help me.

Thanks,
Kim

I dont know the answer, perhaps ask first if doc expects it will work in his office

there are some who specialise in desensitising OCD sufferers, they may be better
have you tried an antidepresant med, they sometimes help

If your OCD has to do with symmetry and order only in your environment, then he/she may give you exercises that you have to do on your own and document in a journal or something of that sort. There are different techniques that are being used to help people with OCD. You may want to find out what his or her technique is and if he or she is familiar with OCD. Not all doctors are. Have you done much research on the subject, read books or contacted a self help group in your area? The fact that you are seeking medical attention is a really good thing so I definitely do not want to deter you but it may be good for you to contact your doctor before the appt and get more info on the type of treatment they use. Hope all goes well.
