Hello,

I just joined today so I hope you receive this reply. I suffer from fibromyalgia, I was dx'd in 1999. I suffer severe tightness in my shoulders and neck and have had to have several epidurals because of it. As I understand it, it is normal for fibro sufferers to experience this along with many other problems. I hope this has helped some.

I have the pain and tightness in my neck and shoulders also. I'm starting PT later this week. So far(13 months), meds haven't helped. The rest of me has good days and bad days, but my neck and shoudlers are always having a bad day. :(

I know what you mean. I also have tightness in my shoulders and neck all the time. So bad that I get horrible headaches because of it. Nothing helps with it except for these over the counter patches, I forget what they are called but they come in a green box. My percocet doen't help at all when I get a headache from my shoulders and neck being so tight. Try the patches, it is worth a try. I stick 1 on each side of my neck and 1 on each side of my upper back. I will try to find out what the name of them are. I just can't figure it out right now.

Good luck and keep me posted on how things are going.

you friend in pain,
Kerry

ah yessssssss, me too. I get pain and stiffness in back of my neck and top of my shoulders,,, sometimes when its really bad, I cant even touch my skin in that area, my skin hurts...ouchhhhh.

i tried a muscle relaxer, it helps.

plus I take a small dose of anti-depressant and a pain pill.

best wishes

When I get that I use my theracane to rub out the trigger points. It hurts but it helps in the long run. - Andy

A theracane is a hook shaped billy club looking thing with several balls on it so you can massage yourself.

Ugh, isn't it reather wet there all the time? I hope you get a respite soon. WE've had wet weather here in Colorado too and it's making me ache all over...80% humidity.

I get alot of tension pain in the neck, shoulders and upper back. Massage helps for a few days but who can afford one every 4 days? Seriously considering going to a shrink to go on a med that will help my cope with my daily stress more. I know they trigger the pains.

check out the lyme thread. lyme disease affects those muscles first and very strongly. Not to mention there are a lot of other classic symptoms.

YES I get this all the time,
and it is so fustrating, I've had fibro for 2+ years now, and this is a very common occurance for me.
It's weird, but you never realize how often people got to touch the base of your neck or shoulders out of kindness until every touch feels like a sledge hammer.
I have found that really warm showers on the painful areas can deliver a bit of relief.
But I would love to be able to get a massage again

Cheers and Blessings

the aching neck and shoulder are my most painful symptoms! the rest of me is somewhat bearable. I use bio-freeze gel sometimes, it actually freezes the pain away. I take ultracet and celebrex as well, today this did not even put a dent in my neck pain...it feels like someone is stabbing me in the shoulders and neck. I am gonna ask my rheumy to either (a) give me something stronger to help the pain or (b) give me a shot of something to help the pain go away.

Does anyone else have any helpful hints on getting the pain to go away?

I had been diagnosed with fibro for about 5 years but was hurting ever since the early 1990's. I pretty much don't know a day when my shoulders aren't stiff and sore. I was also diagnosed with epilepsy in 2002 and because of meds for that I am unable to take anything for pain...it always seems to interfere with my meds. Staying seizure free has to be first. Saying this I have had to find different alternatives. I see a chiropractor, he adjusts me but also does some deep tissue massage when I am really tight. I have a massager which either my husband can use on me or I can use myself. I asked my chiropractor what kind to get and I checked things out. I got a percussion massager with heat...it really gives me relief. I got mine online to save money but they are available at Wal Mart. I use this massager all the time, it is worth every penny. I hope this helps!
