I have migranes, cluster headaches, fibromyalgia. My cluster headaches never go away, just better or worse per day. My dr switched me from perc to vicodin w/ibuprofen. I had not heard of this, just pain meds with tylenol. Has anyone taken this med? I haven't tried them yet as I still have some good ole percs to finish off.

I guess I didn't explain very well, sorry. I have heard of vicidon but not with ibprofen in it. Have heard of meds with tylenol, but not ibuprofen. Is this new or just something I've not heard of.

One more quick question...I have been on Neurontin for about 2 years. I think it's a good med, also helps with my depression, but I gained about 30 pounds while taking it...one of the drawbacks. Today I am set to begin Topamax for pain treatment. I take this with pain meds but supposed to keep migranes, trigeminal, and clusters at bay. Not a real preventative but not allow them to become debilitating as some do. Anyway currently taking Tompamax for this?

Hi, I suffer from migraines and chronic daily cluster headaches. I would get 8 ch a day all 10's. I tried every preventative out there including topamax. I tried it at 200mg and then when I went to a ha/pain clinic they had me try it at 600mg. I was dumb as a door knob at 200mg and it did nothing for my ha. The only thing that helped my migraines was botox injections. I was on methadone for a year 10mg am and 10mg pm and it prevented my ch from occuring for that year. I then swiched over to the duragesic patch 50 mcg and was pain free and ha free for a year on that. I felt a directive from God to quit taking the patch because I was healed of my ha after much prayer. I quit taking it March and have been ha free since then. So 22weeks pain free! Yeehaa! So there is hope for you. You may go into complete remission or turn eposodic. I hope and pray that you find something that gives you relief soon. Have you tried oxygen to abort your ch? Have you tried verapamil(calan) and/or lithium? Lithium cut the number of my ha in half for 2 years then quit working for me. Also I tried taking percacet and vicadin without the tylanol in it so I could take higher dosages and it was like taking candy. It did nothing for the pain of ch. It might bring a 10 to a 8 or 9 and keep you from blowing your brains out but it really doesn't do much to reduce the pain overall. Do a google search and you will find an online support group for people who suffer from ch. good luck!

They have discussed oxygen with me as next step. I can't take lithium, am on other meds for depression/bipolar. Just a mess and find it increasingly difficult to keep track of what meds taken when. I have heard topamax has the "dumbness" effect, but I've read recent studies that if taken for a preventative pain messure it may not be as severe as being taken for psych drug. Guess I'll soon find out! Also on ADD meds which they told me may bring better Topamax results and less bad things. Who knows anymore

Vicoden with ibuprofen has been on the market now for a while so it's nothing new.
I've never taken anti depressant meds for headache control even when it was at it worst. I was on the blood pressure regimine for a while which didn't do much. Now I just take meds as needed as well as a cup of strong coffee and an aspirin or excedrine migraine. If it's not mild in a few hours I go to the hospital. Fortunatley I don't get them like I used to, on a daily basis

I was reading an article the other day about Vitamin C for allergies, asthema and arthritis and they did note that Vitamin C can also help as a migraine preventative, I never knew that before. I do take high doses of C for arthritis so wondering if that hasn't contributed to the slow down of the migraines.

Vicoprofen is a combination of 7.5 hydrocodone ( simijlar in strength to Vicodin ES) and Ibuprofen. I was given that for pain following a dental procedure some years ago.

Instead of mixing hydrocodeone with Apap, it is hydrocodone and ibuprofen

Oh boy,

I didn't realize there were any fellow clusterheads here. The problem with clusters is what works for one person will do nothing for another. I have been fortunate in the fact that Neurontin will keep my cycles at bay for the most part. If I do go into cycle, they usually aren't the 15+ on the pain scale that make you want to find a gun and blow your brains out. I have also discussed the oxygen with my doc. With the oxygen though you have to make sure that they use a nonrebreather mask and set at at least 8l per minute. I have heard some say as high as 15liters per minute. If you went to an ER out of the blue I think it would be almost impossible to get them to go to 15liters a minute unless they are up on cluster headaches.

How much Neurontin do you take? I have heard of some going as high as 3600 mg per day to control their headaches. Thankfully I have not had to go that high but I am also on a fentanyl patch 50ugh and oxy for BT 20mg. Those meds are for my back trouble but I guess they also help my headaches although 2 weeks ago I wouldn't have said that. I was in a horrible cycle because I had ran out of Neurontin and Midrin and had not gone back in to get it refilled. Bad mistake.

Take care and keep in touch. I hope you can find relief. Maybe the Topamax will work for you. I'm more interested in the oxygen because I am already on so many other meds for my back. If you do a search you can find a cluster website that actually has a printable version of the oxygen requirements. You can take it to the ER or your doc. Most clusterheads know the true meaning of O.U.C.H. Good Luck,

God Bless,

Oxygen sounds like a good option mostly because it's healthy and no side effects. I know when I go through spurts of bad ones that require the ER I am given oxygen which I honestly feel does help.
