We are having a bad fire season and top that off with all the other allergens in my house...My mom just got me a Prozone Air Purifier and I understand that ozone is bad for asthmatics...but I really need to do something about the allergens and wanted to give this a try. Does ANYONE use these, or am I asking for trouble?

Hi,

My heart goes out to you regarding the fires in your area. I'm not good with smoke in the air (instant coughing).
In my opinion you're asking for big trouble. Ozone isn't good for anyone, it's linked to lung cancers and there's been a resurgence of warnings in the news lately about it.

I start coughing with ozone (have even before diagnosed). We had an air cleaner attached to our furnace 20 years ago and had to disconnect it. The news about ozone was circulating back then.....

Can you turn off the ioniser? If so, just use it periodically. There would still be a filter in the air purifier, right? It would still clean the air regardless. From what I understand, the ionisers only make the air smell better by "charging" the air and that helps particles be attracted to the filter better.....

Anyway, I'm somewhat biased about them, I don't think it's healthy to breathe ionised air....but how it would work for smokey air...that's more complicated. Have you done a search on that?
