I posted this as a reply, but I thought I'd make a new thread.

----------

Hi everyone! I'm new to the board...and unfortunately to HBP.

I'm 31 and probably 60-80 pounds over weight...I've been fat all my life. I knew my HBP was slightly elevated before, but I was starting a regimen with a personal trainer (two months ago) to try and lower it, so the doctor said to wait and see.

Well, I went to the doctor yesterday and my BP was 160/110! Holy crapola! I was disappointed, because I was hoping the exercise and diet would have lowered it some.

So, I took my first Micardis last night (80mg). I feel a little dizzy today, but hopefully that will pass in a couple of days.

Needless to say, HBP runs in my family, so I'll continue to exercise and eat healthy as well. Let's see what my BP is in two weeks. Wish me luck!

Welcome to the board :)

How much weight have you lost since starting with the trainer?

Do you have a bp cuff at home? If so, what kind of measurements do you get at home? Do you become nervous at the doctors?

Looks like dizziness is a side-effect of the drug:

http://www.pharmacyhealth.net/d/micardis-hct-6869.htm

"...MICARDIS HCT SIDE EFFECTS:
Nausea or vomiting, dry mouth, headache, fatigue or diarrhea may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Report promptly lightheadedness or dizziness or muscle weakness or cramping. Unlikely but report promptly stomach pain, unusual change in amount of urine (after the first several days), unusual thirst, fainting or mental/mood changes. Very unlikely but report promptly persistent sore throat or cough, fever, unusual bleeding or bruising, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, chest pain, rapid heartbeat or joint pain. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this product, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist..."

Hey there! It doesn't appear that I have lost poundage, but I have lost inches. I am gaining muscle, so there is a normal tradeoff on the scale numbers, which I'm not so concerned about. My body is definitely getting more fit. My trainer is going to take my measurements (fat %) in another month or so.

I don't have a machine at home. I think my mom has digital and analog sphygmomenometers (I love that word), so maybe I'll take a couple of readings later this week.

I don't normally get anxious at the doctor, but who knows...maybe I am and I 'm just not realizing it!

:)
