can't tell what it is that i'm feeling-whether it's a swollen gland, swollen lymph node or just a lump that appeared today. It's right under my left jaw closer to my chin than to my ear. A bit tender to the touch. don't feel tired or anything. will keep watching it but wanted to know if any of you have ever had this and what it was......
thanks for reading.

Hi Heather... Sounds like a swollen gland. I had the same thing a few months ago and it went away after I had an infected tooth pulled. I actually now have more swollen glands in the back of my neck on both sides... and I have an abcess tooth that needs a root canal (I have really bad teeth!) that I just got an antibiotic for... so hopefully with the antibiotic, they will go away. Do you have any bad cavities? If so, that could be the cause... hope this helps... KIM

It's a swollen lymph gland. Have you been sick lately? I had both sides swollen last year after a really bad bout with bronchitis.

no, that's the thing...teeth don't hurt and haven't been sick. However, this am, I've got a bit of a sore throat and some drainage. Just was concerned because i never had a sore node before and was worried. was never able to actually feel it when i moved my neck and i could last night. seems to be a bit better today. i'll keep an eye on it-just always think the worst......so bad about that.
thanks for both of your replies;)

anything can cause a swollen lymph node, even a hang nail. It could be due to your sore throat. If you aren't better in a few days definately see a doc

As the others said, it sounds like a swollen lymph node. Just keep your eye on it and see if changes in size. If it appears to be growing over time, or as Kissa said, if it doesn't shrink to normal in a few days, I'd reccomend getting it checked by a doctor (perhaps an Ear, Nose, & Throat specialist). I had a similar thing happen to me a couple of years ago, and it turned out to be a cyst. Good luck. ^^
