Could HPV on the cervix turn into cervical cancer within a year? What is the usual time frame this happens in?

Hi,
There is no such thing as HPV on the cervix per se. HPV is a virus that is sexually transmitted that can cause pre-cancerous changed on your cervix. These precancerous cell changes are call dysplasia, and can be mild, moderate, or severe. They say it usually takes many years for dysplasia to become cancer, but there have been some cases unfortuntely where it has progressed faster. The only way to know if you have these precancerous changes or cancer is to go to the gynecologist and have a pap smear (if it comes back abnormal, other tests will show more precisely whats going on). However, not all kinds of HPV put you at risk for cervical cancer, but if you think you have HPV, you need to go to the gynecologist very regularly because it is a risk factor for cervical cancer. If these precancerous changes are caught before they become cancer, they can be removed successfully.
Take care, Alex

It really depends on you - how well you take care of yourself and your immune system. Normally, it takes anywhere from 7-10 years for pre-cancerous cells to develop into full blown cancer. HOWEVER, there have been exceptions where for some people, it only took a few months or a few years. Just stay on top of it and don;t let it go fot too long! My oncologist told me that it really isn't that big of a deal but it should not be ignored!

hpv to cancer in a year does sound like a fast transition. But I am not saying it cannot happen. As previously stated it does depend on your immune system. First you would get mild dysplasia, then moderate, and then severe dysplasia. The condition would progress from there. best wishes

I Cant Help Much But To Give You My Experince - I Developed Ciniii(cis) In A Year. So I Think It Really Depends On One's Body To How Fast Things Develope. I Had 10 Prior Paps All Were Normal Then Bam! Just Take Care Of Yourself And Listen To Your Doctors.

Istn microinvasive one of the earliest invasive types? I remember reading on it somewhere let me see if I can find it.

Microinvasion was defined as depth of invasion or tumor
thickness of at most 5 mm. Microscopic assessment was made on
punch biopsies, serially sectioned conization specimens, and
extensively sampled hysterectomy specimens.

I am thinking that this type is glandular while the other, like carcinoma in situ, is basal....

What treatment have you been offered? So you have AIS? Has it invaded any other tissue, or is it in situ?
