Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on how bad medications effect the liver. I take 5-6 various prescription medications each month for various illnesses. They are prescribed by three different doctors but each doctor knows what meds I am taking.

I know that the liver helps remove toxins from the body. So I know the meications are broken down in the liver. I have heard that serious liver problems can result by taking certain medications.

The medications I take are 60mg Lexapro for OCD and depression, 30mg of Remeron which is also an antidepressant(but prescribed to me for sleep purposes), 4mg of Klonopin for anxiety, 1,500mg of Trileptal for nerve damage, and 20mg of Lipitor for high cholesterol.

I know this is alot of medication and the Lipitor I know works directly on the liver. I am a 28 year old male weighing approx. 160-165lbs and do not drink alcohol. Am I at risk for liver damage by taking these medications. I do not want to add to my health problems. If anyone has any insight to my problems please feel free to comment. Thanks

Some meds that are taken for along time or in excess amounts can hurt the liver. The best thing to do is to ask a pharmacisti or your doctor about the meds you are on and tell them your concerns. I do have liver damage and am on a variety of meds, so I ask mine doctor all the time about the meds i take.
