My sister wants to get her daughter's eyebrows waxed. The child is 8, but IS in need of some waxing. Her eyebrows will eventually look like Bert from Sesame Street if something isn't done. She has the most BEAUTIFUL eyes too, but all that eyebrow hair is taking away the beauty. Is there anyway for my niece to get this done safely? Thanks!!!

I can't help but wonder how your niece feels about all this? I'm envisioning a child growing up with a complex about her looks. Is this a bad enough problem to cause her to feel self-conscious and get teased? Or just her mom's concern? If this is just mom's perfectionism, she shouldn't do it at all. Kid's don't need that kind of pressure. Besides, waxing hurts even when done correctly. It should be her choice whether she has it. If she is coming herself and saying mom I don't like this then by all means do it, but if this is being pushed on the child because mom doesn't like it I don't think it should be done. Just my two cents as a child who grew up feeling ugly.

Thanks for the reply--I agree with you and what you've said. My niece has come up to me AND her mom and said that she didn't understand why "God gave her such big eyebrows like her dad's." I think that's what was giving my sister the green light so-to-speak on getting the eyebrows waxed. It seems to bother my niece, and she seemed more than willing to get it done, so we'll see. I was just wondering if anyone out there knew of some different types of waxes, and all that to add "some" comfort to the procedure. (I have mine done, so I know the comfort and discomfort in it). Don't get me wrong; my sister isn't vain. If you saw the eyebrows you would know that she will get made fun of eventually. She is a BEAUTIFUL girl, but kids now days can be SO CRUEL, and I think my sis is looking at that part of it; to try and save her that humiliation.

Does she have Brook Shields eyebrows or a man's eyebrows? When I was about 12 one of my brothers friends pointed at my eyebrows and asked me why I only had one. I hadn't plucked between my eyes yet and it really looked like one long eyebrow. My mom taught me how to pluck between the eyes and now I have a salon do an arch. Have any of her friends commented on her eyebrows? How does she feel?

when u say your gonna wax her eyebrows tell me you dont mean her whole eyebrows so shes bald
coz if u do that your lose her eyebrow shape
hairs will sprout up everywhere above the eyebrow shape and everywhere always aways wax underneath and only alittle at a time
but id say use tweezers even if she does have alot of hair and i,d suggest you do it when shes deep asleep so you can shine the light on her face even do alittle every day coz she,ll proberbly wake up when u start pulling the hairs out remember theres no rush she just a kid

I don't really know of any method to make it completely painless, but waxing will be better than tweezing. If you're looking to avoid the one eyebrow look then you should be able to just do it in one swipe, just waxing between the brows rather than doing all the shaping that most of us go through. I would probably warn her that it will hurt, kind of like pulling off a bandaid, and if she says okay then go for it. It may be easier on her at first if you go to a salon unless one of you is very experienced with doing it yourself. Speed is the key to making it relatively painless.

I didn't get my eyebrows waxed until I was 18 years old. Maybe wait until she gets a little older if she wants to have it done.

Thanks for all the replies. It means alot to know that people truly understand what my sister and niece are going through. I told my sister what the replies have been and she said she will talk to my niece and let her know it feels like a band-aid getting ripped off of your skin. Then she'll see if my niece really wants it. My sis also pointed out that she is NOT changing her look so she looks like she is 18-25 years old; just so they aren't so bushy. (Like Brooke Shields or Helga from "Hey Arnold") Thanks again!!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
