i keep doing things like preparing to do something, and then totally forgetting what it is i'm about to do. sometimes it takes a half hour to figure out what it was! it also feels like it takes my brain a few seconds to "shift gears", i know something that i have to do, but it's like i stand there searching my memory for a few seconds before my mind and body can work in sync. does this sound like anyone else's "fibro fog?" also in the shower today, it hurt to shave underneath my armpits? is that normal w/ fibro??

I have not been dx yet, but definitely can feel for you. I have 5 kids and it is so hard any way to keep up with appointments for them, but lately I find myself forgetting more and more. As I am not on any pain pills yet, besides over the counter medicine or what I can sweet talk my mother out of, (She has fibro) I know it can't be the meds. Thats like right now I forgot what I was going to say, I just completely lost my whole train of thought. That is why I have started writing anything and everything down.
When I think of my future, (I'm trying to go back to college and finish up my degree) I don't like the looks of it, how will I ever be able to work a fulltime job? I can't even get out of bed some mornings. I have increased my Effexor trying to handle the depression that is trying to overtake me, but my future with this pain just looks so bleak. Does anyone else get this helpless feeling?
I have not had the pain in the arm pits while shaving, but the fog; I stay in a fog.
Take care
I get very frustrated with forgetting the 2nd or 3rd step of a task. It's aggrivating to be standing there thinking "what in the hell was I going to do"

Lol, happens to all of us. I constantly have that "I'm forgetting something" feeling. I try to make lots of lists, to do lists, project lists, shopping lists, whatever comes into my head so I can refer back later. That is if I've remembered I made a list.
Oh and the armpit thing, I have that too sometimes. Your glands and lymph nodes swell sometimes from fibro so I think it's mostly that. So just go Madonna and be hairy. Or should I call her Esther?

You sound like a normal Fibromite for sure! Welcome to the world of "what the heck was I doing?" We pay so many late fees because, since I'm the one home as my husband is gone working offshore for a month at a time, I simply forget to pay our bills. I've gotten a big ole' calander on the wall that you can write on and erase, as well as one of those bill organizers with the little slots. Well, the calander is on June, and the organizer is empty! Walking into the kitchen and then wondering why you went in there, common. Yesterday I almost put the tea kettle in the fridge!
As for the irritation under your arms, us Fibromites have very tender skin sometimes, and even the water from the shower can hurt us, so that's probably why you hurt while shaving. They have a new disposable razor that has a solid bar of moisturizer around the blades ( can't remember the name ) but it might help.
Take care, and I hope I helped you feel a little less "nuts". This condition actually DOES affect our brain. Do a websearch on Fibromyalgia research and you'll find some really interesting articles that discuss how our brain reacts when we feel pain. I know that I posted it before somewhere, but I subscribe to a Fibromyalgia newsletter, and there was an article in one issue that told about the reaction of a person with Fibro being administered pain, while being given an MRI. It said that the part of our brains that respond to pain "steal" from the part of our brain that does our cognetive thinking in order to try and "cut off the pain" like normal people can. Kind of "robbing Peter to pay Paul" sort of thing, only inside our heads! LOL
Well, I rattled on. Hope it helps. You are NOT losing your mind, you are a "normal" Fibro. Just remember that we are special, and part of a very close family.
Good day, and good karma!
