I'm really trying to gain some serious weight. I need some ideas on some high-calorie, low-filling foods. Peanut butter sandwiches is a personal favourite, but need some other good ideas. Thanks.

Steak, even the higher fat ones, is my favorite. Some others I used to bulk up are skim milk, mixed nuts, cheese, protein shakes, eggs, and all other forms of red meat. I did eat a lot of chicken breast and veggies also. I added bulk with very little fat.

Since you can tolerate the calories, try to go for more fat, but make it EFAs (which are actually helpful in staying lean and hormone regulation) instead of saturated fat when you can help it. Some fatty red meat is ok, but you're just asking for health problems later if you go in excess. Fat is good for bulking because it's calorie dense and not terribly filling. Add avocados, nuts, different nut butters, but a Tbsp or two of Flax or Udo's oil into protein shakes (but NOT a post workout shake), olive oil to soups or salads. Like pokerplayer, you probably want to add muscle without gaining fat so you'll need to gauge how your body responds to the increased calories and nutrients and adjust accordingly.

How many times a day are you eating and what does your diet/workout look like now? What do you eat and when? And what are your current stats?

Right now, I only weight 130lbs. The past few months, I was working 2 jobs, and was able to maintain my weight at only 1500 calories/day. My new diet consists of 6 meals/day; added 1000calories/day = 2500 calories/day.

I'm still looking for specific high-calorie, low-filling foods. I know there might be some controversy with this, but I am a long time sufferer of acne, so there are a lot of foods (which seem to be good for weight gain) that I do have to avoid.

high calorie, low filling foods?... i'm not sure that they exist, really.

i too have long been troubled by acne and i've been trying to bulk up for a couple of years now so i can sympathize with your situation. a lot of the weight gainer products are loaded with sugar.

if you have the time, eating six balanced meals a day will definitely help in bulking up. foods that have really helped me which should not have a big impact on your skin are nuts (though filling), wheat pasta with added ground meat, lean meat and cheese combinations, etc. stay away from meal replacement bars if you can because of all the added sugar and the iodine is said to aggravate acne. if you want a good alternative to a standard mrp bar, try the atkins advantage bars. they're made with better ingredients and should be fine for your skin..but be warned that they'll make you gaseous.

my other suggestion is to go to the local gnc or nutrition store and get a container of whey protein mix (i use the chocolate flavored blend by optimum and mix it with skim milk) - drink a glass right before bed and upon waking up.. this has been very helpful to me. and if you're lifting weights regularly (which is key to bulking up) you may want to consider creatine. i've read posts on the acne board in which people swear it causes acne but i completely disagree. it will definitely help and if you can drink about a gallon of water a day, you will have no problems.

hope some of that helps.... let me know if you have any questions

What do you have to avoid?

There's a huge list of potential problem foods. The more popular ones would be: dairy, nuts, grains (excluding oats), high sugar foods.

Because of the sugar content, I recently stopped taking a weight gainer.
