Hi all. I really dont know what to do. Since the doc put me on amitripyline I have gotten less sleep than before. I got maybe 2 hrs last night, only 3 hrs the night before and 4 hrs the night before that. Should I call the doc and tell them or just stick it out for a few more days and see what happens?
Im getting real crabby from all of this, its bad enough to feel like I've been hit by some kind of large truck, and now to be soooooooooo tired on top of it, I dont know how much more I can take before I snap.
Thanks
Janice

Hi Janice,

I had problems with that too. Not only could I not sleep, it gave me nightmares when I did, it also made me want to kill everyone who even talked to me. Wasn't worth it to me. Everyone handles medicine differently. I'd call the Dr. and ask them if you should tough it out a few more days or try something else. Let them know you're not sleeping. Maybe they can suggest something.

Good Luck
Chris

Hi Dear,

Chris is right. My Mom has this reaction to elavil. Even though it takes awhile to get in your system, fibro people often have wierd drug reactions so it's probably time to try something else. If you are having trouble with Elavil, Paxil may do the same thing. I had bad reaction to that as well. Then coming off of it was like kicking heroin or something. I was a mess for two weeks. Dizzy, crying, hallucinating, though tI was going crazy.

See if he'll give you Prozac or Zoloft. Prozac works well for me and Zoloft works well for my Mom.

Good luck and I hope you get to sleep soon - Andy

P.S. Don't quit the elavil cold turkey, need to taper off or you'll feel even worse.
