I had the names of various blood pressure machines most popular by board members but have lost my bookmark.

I believe ZuZu was the one that listed them.

Would appreciate info as the one I've been using has quit working properly. It was the LifeSource brand and I've never been too pleased with it (I was a newbie when I bought it and plent dumb....still am :-).

By the way, I live in Cape Coral, Fl. so did get a good scare from Charley...we have no damage but the whole surrounding areas are disasterous where hurricane really hit.

No power or phone for seven days....heat and humidity was terrible.....moved here from CA and can't decide which is scarier earthquake vs hurricane.....do get warnings on hurricanes.

I use an OMRON Digital Monitor Model # HEM-432C.

I know Zuzu uses an OMRON also, but believe a different model #.

I wouldnt know the difference between the two, mine does the BP and pulse and keeps a log of 15 readings.

I have OMRON HEM-711 Digital. Just had it checked at doctors today. He said it was close enough, although it was few points higher than what he got. He got 110/76, the machine got 116/83.

Hey! When it comes to facing the high winds and rains of a hurricane, I'll pick the earthquakes and take my chances! :D

Glad to see your back online and hope everything gets back to normal soon!

To others, how much do the OMRON's cost?

MissLawanna,

I have no idea which blood pressure monitor is best, although I would prefer the one which gives me the lowest reading. :D

I'm glad your power has been restored following the hurricane. I can easily live without a telephone for 7 days, or even 7 weeks. But air conditioning? Never! I've always said that the best invention of the 20th century was air conditioning, and the worst invention was that darn phone. ;)

MissLawanna,

I have the same OMRON model HEM-711 as Sandra. Gives me virtually the same readings as my doc gets. Very easy to use. Also has a memory and gives pulse.

The June 03 issue of Consumer Reports did an article on BP monitors, and highly recommend the automatic, self-inflatable- arm-cuff, digital read-out ones by:
OMRON, LIFESOURCE, LUMISCOPE or RELiON AUTOMATIC... which is made by Omron (sold by Walmart). You probably can't go wrong with any one of those.

The report also indicated that the wrist and finger monitors tested badly for consistency and were considerably less accurate than the arm cuffs.

Out of curiosity, why didn't you like the Lifesource one you bought?

Since I have a lot of respect for your knowledge, I feel I made the right choice in my selection! How long have you had your HEM-711. I have had mine for 6 months. And had the accuracy checked when I first received it, and just recently. Both times it was slightly higher. That made me feel confident, that what ever I get at home on the machine, could actually be a little lower!

Hi Sandra!

I've had mine for about a year or so. It's a VERY sensitive machine and on two occasions when I took it to the doc's office it read a bit higher (a couple of points like you experienced) than my doc's sphygmomanometer.

Consistency is the key I think. And as long as our home readings are good, and the doc concurs that our "portables" are okay, we can relax!

I have a Lifesource automatic, self-inflatable- arm-cuff, digital read-out unit, I've taken it to the doc a few times and it registers close to what they measure.

I've been happy with it, but sometimes I find it confusing as it will inflate, start to deflate, and then inflate again, like my bp was really high, but then it gives me numbers that are pretty good like 125-135 systolic so it confuses me sometimes as to what it thinks it is doing inflating twice.
