View Full Version : New here and freaking out

On and off boyfriend of past 1.5 years called last night to inform me that he went to the doctor to have a red, open sore on his penis investigated. Doctor thought that it may be HPV-2, did a test (results not back til Tuesday) and put BF on Famvir for one week, in case it is HPV-2.

Neither of us have had any symptoms prior to this incident. His doc specifically asked if he had been with anyone new in the past 2 months, he told him no, which I believe to be true. He and I haven't even been together sexually in the past 2 months. We are very careful about condom usage also. Anyway, I'm freaking out wondering if this is something I could have had, and not known about, for maybe a couple of years prior to meeting him. The guy I was dating a few years ago was cheating on me, and at that time we were in what I *thought* was a monogamous relationship and I was on the pill, so we weren't using condoms.

I am going to feel like absolute crap if I have HPV-2, and even more so if I passed this on to someone else without knowing I had it. I am going in to get tested on 8/27 also, regardless of how BF's test results come back. After looking at stuff on the internet this morning, I am really beginning to think that what he has IS HPV-2, and I am getting hysterical. I know I shouldn't jump the gun until a)his test results come back postive and b)so do mine, but that is very difficult right now. Could what he have be something else? Any calming advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Are you referring to HSV-2, which is herpes simplex virus-2? HPV is human papilloma virus and is associated with genital warts.

Yes, I mean HSV-2. Sorry, my brain is a bit scrambled at the moment.

If it's an open sore, it most likely is herpes. Wait until you get the results back, just to be sure.
