hello all!
i brought my mother home from the hospital yesterday. one of the reasons she was there was severe cellulites (sp) she weighs about 392 pounds and most of it is water weight. she is on lasix and several other meds but nothing helps, skin that should be soft and pliable is very hard and puckered. she has been having huge blisters on her legs where the fluid starts pushing through tissue.

mom needs help and i have no clue what to do for her. i do have an appointent for her with a new doctor on wendsday. its going to be intresting getting her out of the house. it was a job getting her in yesterday.

Hi. Where is the cellulites? My mom had it before and it was on her legs. I don't know, it that the only place it occurs? If none of the meds are working then the dr's need to do something else. I remember when my mom was treated she was given meds (cant remember what ones) but there was also a cream that was applied and then her legs were bandaged up until the next time we changed them and did the whole routine all over again. My mom had MS and was unable to walk. Eventually she got cellulites really bad.

thanks for responding!
its pretty much in her leg, stomach and backside. she has stretch marks that in places are an inch high. the fluid builds up in her legs so bad that blisters erupt. i will make it a point to ask this new doctor about what can me done for her.

Yeah I would definately make sure you talk to the dr and Im sure he will be able to tell just looking at her that the meds aren't working. There's got to be something else he can do or give her. I know what you mean about the blisters breaking through the skin. One thing my mom would do is spray Bactine on the sores. She would do this everyday as needed. She did this before she finally admitted that she needed to go to the doctor. My mom hated doctors. But I think the Bactine helped some with keeping the area cleaner and it killed germs too.

I can't be of any help but I just waned to say I'm sorry your mother is having to go through this. But seems like she has a wonderful daughter to help her.
(Hoping you are a girl) If not she has a wonderful Son:)
Has anyone talked to your mother about surgery to lose weight. I mean I don't know if thats even a option or not but is the problems coming from being overweight? You'll have to forgive me cause I'm not very smart on this subject :D
Please let us know how everything is going.
Take Care :)

I am very against surgery also but mostly cause I'm scared of being put to sleep or anything like that. I even have a hard time at the dentist with numbing medicine....Why is your mother so against it? I hope the doctor has good news or atleast something that can he helpful to your mother.
Take Care and Let keep us posted.

not sure why she is so against surgery. she did go in for sugery when she had cancer a few years ago. she gets herself so worked up over things. i will keep you all posted. she is doing a lot better since she has been with me. am trying to get her sugar under control, it has been up and down so much. :nono: the swelling in her feet and legs is doing better and she is able to get around a little but is still pretty much bedridden.
i know she would still be in awful shape if i had not insisted she come home with me.

the celluites is a little less. i found out that she stopped taking her lasix for awhile and when she would have to pee she would hold it because the people taking care of her would get mad when they would have to empty her potty.
she kept saying she was sorry that i had to do it. i mean come on... how many times did she empty mine when i was little. ;)

Hi again
Was your mother in a nursing home or something? Thats awful someone would make her feel bad for having to empty a potty chair  That just makes me mad. But I think when a person gets older and loses alot of their independence it's very emtionally rough on them or I know atleast it would be for me. My grandmother well she's my mother really cause she raised me doesn't want to rely or depend on anyone for anything and I just try to tell her she always has me for whatever she needs or wants but it usually doesn't do any good. She always thinks she is being a burden. But I do get to take her to the groccery store and stuff like that but she always pays me which makes me crazy but she always finds a way to slip it in my purse or gets mad if I won't take it. I hope your mother is doing good.
Take Care

Mom was in the hospital when i brought her home. i had gone to see her and stopped at her house to pick up my nice and was horrified at the way she was living. needless to say she DID NOT go back. it was no wonder she got an infection. :nono:
as for the potty chair. i wish it was in a nursing home cuz then heads would roll. but it was my siblings that did her that way.

the visiting nurse was here yesterday, and said mom is looking so much better since she was here the day after she came home from the hospital which will be a week ago tomorrow.

I gotta run. need to start getting her ready to go to the dr.

I just wonder where people are coming from when they treat another person like that especially their own mother. But I am glad she is doing better. My grandma fell down this morning and luckly she was close enough to the phone to reach it and called me. So my husband and I went out and got her up but I called 911 anyway for them to just come and check her out but 20 minutes went by and no ambulance so she made me call them back and tell them to cancel the ambulance but I managed to check her blood pressure which was high and I checked her sugar..can't remember what the proper name for it is but she has diabetes and mamaw always just calls it her sugar test....it was almost 300..which isn't good but she took her insulin shot and was gonna eat a little something. I feel so bad cause she won't let me do more.
Hope the doctor visit goes good today.
Take Care.
